Slightly Minty ...,

As Erma Bombeck once said, it was a "pantyhose on backward" kind of day. Raining outside and maybe a little bit inside, too.
I had been trying the different Primula flowering teas and had held back on this one, mostly because I enjoyed the others so well. But, my nose was stuffed up, and what was better than peppermint? This turned out to be much milder than many of the peppermint teas I have enjoyed in the past (all of the primula white teas I have tried have been very mild.) Like the others, it had a hint of jasmine, and a very light tea flavor. I know all of the flowers are different, but the first one I used had a pink "clover" with the white flowers attached. It was lovely. As I mentioned the peppermint was more of a hint than an overpowering scent, so I picture this more for a mild, sunny afternoon than for the rainy day I chose. While I purchased the actual Primula pot to brew the teas, they are also very lovely in a clear coffee carafe! And, while I enjoyed this particular version, my favorite so far has been the peach flavored tea.

I got this tea as a gift. I'm not a big fan of mint, but this tea is addictive after the first cup or two! The mint flavor is strong but not overpowering, so it's very pleasant and comforting. I do add some sweetener, but not as much as some other teas. I will be buying more of this one!

It's the 'flowering' part that makes the flowering teas stand apart from the teas most of us are used to - loose tea or the various type of teabags. I like the way the little pod expands into something resembling a sea urchin or anemone but, after all, it's 'tea' that I want to drink. And the tea is not so bad.
Dropping a pod into the Primula Black 40-Ounce Teapot Includes Loose Tea Infuser and 3 Flowering Green Teas would produce 40 oz. of delicate, quite acceptable white tea enhanced with a hint of peppermint blended in. And, once you're done then... repeat and... repeat again. The third batch was still good to drink tea and the flower inside the pot was still relatively intact. I haven't tried a 4th but the instruction suggest that you only use one pod 3 times. It's probably worth mentioning that my order came with a free Lung Ching loose green tea packet (4 g.) and a number of coupons indicating that Primula is very seriously into tea making - selling teapots, loose tea and tea flowers for all occasions. Coming back to my specific 12-pack, it should be understood that, like green tea but even more so, white tea is an acquired taste - it's more delicate, not as 'grassy' as green tea and I prefer it myself but it does take some getting used to. White teas are made out of younger leaves and buds as opposed to green or black teas that use older leaves. It undergoes less oxidation and, apparently, it has more mood-balancing, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-viral benefits when compared to green tea. For best results, white tea should be made with 180°F water and steeped for 2 to 3 minutes - let the water go to a boil, then wait for a few minutes before pouring it in. Concluding, I found the flowering part to be a nice touch. According to a co-worker of mine who happens to be from China, the flowering teas are not a Chinese tradition. They don't really drink 'flowering teas' over there because the stitching process would make them way too expensive but, if paid, the Chinese farmers don't mind doing this for Primula. The tea quality is good, the flowers are nice (but not as nice as the pictures show) and the price is a little bit on the upside - but remember that you can get up to 120 oz. of tea out of each pod. Overall, a 4 star rating is well earned.

I love the primula tea flowers. I have tried the White tea with a hint of peach and the Green Tea with a hint of jasmine. The White Tea and Peppermint is my favorite with the white tea and peach a close 2nd. They are all so delicately flavored and beautiful to look at. I love to serve the tea flowers to guests and watch them delight in the flowers unfolding before their eyes. I also like that you can reuse the tea flower up to 3 times in a 24 hour period. Very cost effective.

This tea is very high quality and delicious. The craftsmanship in tying the flowers is impressive. It is so pretty sitting in the pot I don't want to drink it, but I can't help drinking it because it is delicious! Buy plenty. Makes a great gift, hint hint.

I'm not a big tea drinker, but my Mom IS! She loves the blooming tea. It not only tastes great, but it's a beautiful display and a great conversation starter at her parties, and for her clients! (She's a Bowen therapist.)

I purchased three sets of these for gifts and they came in an ugly brown box. The teas are individually wrapped nicely, but in order to give them as a gift, I had to purchase small gift bags too.
I've heard that the tea is just okay, no one has called to rave about it. |
