5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of my favorite albums of all time, May 24, 2002
This review is from: Prince Blimey (Audio CD)
This is truly a magnificent album. The sound quality is excellent, the performance is way out and the inventiveness is remarkable. If you want to buy only one Red Snapper album, this is by far the one. The band has changed a lot and what they have put out after this album is not comparable. It looks like they are trying to be more commercial and they now sound like any hip hop band (now they have a rapper). I wish they returned to the style that makes this album special. Buy this one, you will not regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Red Snapper is hip hop meets jazz. Beautiful!, March 19, 1999

I totally recommend this to anyone who likes where jazz and hip hop are melding and heading into the future. It's beautiful stuff, all live instruments and scratching. Another of their albums "Making Bones" is great, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Overlooked Record You Should Look Over, July 15, 2009

If you miss the psych-jazz genius bands of the Seventies like Colosseum, If and Nucleus, then you'll love this record. It's like stepping back into London 1971. The only complaint I have about the record is that I think the drums are tuned a little too tightly. They could use a more looser sound to match the loose grooves, but I'm just quibbling. There's some great playing going on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the Music of the Future, October 17, 1999

I've been searching for a band I could aspire to play like, and I think I have found it. This album is technologically tasteful. The use of effects is very well balanced with the live stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wish I hadn't paid so much, June 24, 2003

I ordered this CD for well over twenty
dollars and found it in my local shop
for eight bucks while shipping. Not that
I'm dissapointed with the CD, but man I
wish I'd saved the cash.

If you're coming from a Red Snapper past
of Our Aim Is To Satisfy and Making Bones,
expect the backwards progression you've
already seen.

This CD is far more acid-jazz than it is
electronic in any respect. It is still
excellent, and I enjoy it very much. The
instrumentation is excellent.

Inventive drumming and live instruments
carry the CD throughout. As other Red
Snapper work, the CD is highly original
and just well done.

The music is excellent and the songs
often shine through in their arrangement.
There are small electronic elements here
and there, a sweep of a synth, some stab
or work here and there, but the feel is
predominantly live.

Very good, but if you don't like acid
jazz and you're looking for an electronic
tinged gem like Our Aim Is To Satisfy,

you might be in for a suprise. But it's
great music in general, and I'm still
going to look for Reeled And Skinned.
