Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

A war between humans and elves that has been brewing for more than 50 years is coming to the city of Cielis, and Emily, her brother, Navin, and the people and creatures around them must face the past in order to survive the future. Anchored by dazzlingly lush art and a complex, character-laden plot, Kibuishi’s Amulet series remains a must-have for all elementary- and middle-school graphic-novel collections. Devoted fans will appreciate that this volume begins to flesh-out the backstory of two characters while starting to tie together a few of the many plot elements. Grades 4-7. --Snow Wildsmith

Bestselling Author Kazu Kibuishi strikes gold once again in his epic fantasy series with 'AMULET #5:Prince Of The Elves." This captivating, action-packed adventure grabs the reader's attention in the very beginning as it becomes more exciting page-after-page. Emily and her friends are preparing to fight a brutal battle to defeat the Elf King in hope for survival. Many mysteries are solved, including the voice of the Stone as we find out what Max and Trellis are up to. The story is engaging as well as addicting. The colorful illustrations are stunning as they come to life, illuminating the story. A fun-filled, compelling adventure that makes you crave for more from this author. Highly Recommended to all fantasy lovers!

Emily must continue her journey to master her power as a Stone Keeper and save Alledia from the Elf King. But her challenge grown as she now faces a new enemy in Max, the mysterious young Stone Keeper who has aligned himself with the Elf King. And they have the last of the mother stone and together they are creating new allies to destroy all who are in their path. But secrets are revealed...not only about the Elf King, but about the stone itself. And perhaps once more there is hope at defeating the Elf King and restoring balance. But for now Emily and her friends must prepare for battle and hope that they survive.

I've loved the entire series but the story in this one blew me away. Kazu finally answers some of the mysteries that he's been building, such as the voice of the stone and what it really is. But even better than that Kazu continues to build and enrich what we know about the characters lives creating an even more engaging story to pull the reader in. In this book we learn more about Max, the mysterious Stone Keeper from the last volume, and even more about Trellis and the journey that he's on. My one and only regret with this book is that it ended all too quickly.

The artwork in this volume is absolutely phenomenal. Kazu and his team have outdone themselves with this series and in this volume they surpass themselves. Mind you I'm viewing an electronic galley so the final actual print could be even better, but the colors are astounding. They make the book come alive, such as the baren snowy landscape scenes. You would think that these types of scenes would be easy to create, brown/black for the mountain and white for the snow and boom, you're done.

I enjoyed both the artwork and story in this the fifth book of the Amulet series. While it is marketed as a young adult book it is certainly not written in a way that an adult can not enjoy it as well. As always if you are a fan of Kazu's artwork you won't be disappointed. At this point I'm eagerly waiting for the release of the next book in the series.

In this, the 5th book of the Amulet series, as the name suggests, we find out more about the story of the elves, and why Trellis has father issues.

The perennial child and stonekeeper Max (who we learn is somewhere in his 60s), due to the long ago death of his childhood elf friend Layra, has allied himself with the evil Elf King, and helps to liberate the imprisoned mountain giant Chronos. The elves then launch an offensive to kill all the remaining humans in Alledia. Then, the limited forces of Cielis decide launch a defensive attack on the elves, led by the last Guardians Emily and Vigo.

It turns out that the Stones have 3 purposes: power, communication and travel. As Emily realizes that the voice coming through her stone, may not be the stone itself, but some sort of malevolent entity which is manipulating both the elves and the humans.

Both Trellis and Emily travel into the void that is both a land of memories and lair of evil creatures. Trellis realizes that as a loner he will not succeed on defeating his father but will need to team up with the humans to do so.

In book 5, Kazu Kibuishi is building to giant showdown between the elves and the humans. As in the previous books, his fantastical illustrations are a great foil to the twisty, yet engrossing story line.

Have you ever read the series of Amulet? If you really like Graphical Novels then this is the right book for you. It has Elves, monsters, powers, and a lot of action. So if, you like all of this stuff, read this series.

Amulet book five is filled with adventure and a action. This book tells you more about Max's’ past and about why he became this mean kid with no heart. This part of the series also talks about how Max now has the Mother Stone and how he can do a lot of damage with all this power. While this is happening Emily is starting to find out about how her stone is a lot more sinister than what she thought. She is now finding out that her stone isn’t only more powerful now, but that it can do a lot of damage if not taken care of.

My teacher is the person who really got me hooked on to this series. I don’t know why but there is just something that just fascinates me about Graphical Novels. What I mostly like about this series though is that you kind of never know what is going to happen next. It also fascinates me how the Author has such a great imagination and can create a book with almost everything that you can look for in an adventure book. Well I really hope that you are fascinated by this book the same way how I was when I read it.
