4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Fantasy
Prince of the Elves was a good read. While it contains all the fantasy elements such as Elves, Giants, Faerie, Dwarves, Trolls and magic there are often surprises that defy sterotypes. Readers of Tolkein and Robert Jordan will enjoy this saga.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could not finish
I'm an avid fan of fantasy (Eddings, Jordan, Goodkind; it's a large and varied list), and decided to try this on a whim (while I wait for #4 of the WOT series to come out on Kindle). It's one of about 3 books EVER that I've quit reading in disgust.

The prose reads like a third-rate fantasy satire. The characters are complete stereotypes (well, the 2 or 3 I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Fantasy, November 5, 2008
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
Prince of the Elves was a good read. While it contains all the fantasy elements such as Elves, Giants, Faerie, Dwarves, Trolls and magic there are often surprises that defy sterotypes. Readers of Tolkein and Robert Jordan will enjoy this saga.

Jehard's quest is filled with the unexpected. The companions he picks up along the way are likeable and well developed. I especially like the way the female characters are defined. It is interesting to watch Jehard mature during his trek.

I am looking forward to the next books. I find myself wondering about some of the lesser characters and hope to see them developed into stronger characters in future releases. If you enjoy fantasy, you will not be disappointed in this book

4.0 out of 5 stars Good fantasy reading, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
I very much enjoyed reading Prince of the Elves. Although the standard elves, dwarves, trolls etc are there, they are unique enough to make interesting reading. The characters are real and believable. Starting with Jerhad the young elf, the tale moves quickly from commonplace everyday life to a journey to battles, as he meets others (Stanton, the ex-military commander, Andreanna, the feisty human woman, Morlock the Giant) and gains allies against evil wizards and trolls. Magic in this land is intriguing, too, from the elven magic that Jerhad discovers within himself to the Druid magic to evil wizardry. I am looking forward to the next book, I really want to see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best fantasy books I've read in a long time!, October 24, 2008
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
This is one of the best fantasy books I've had the pleasure of reading in a long time. Readers will instantly find themselves empathizing with Jerhad, an ordinary elf who finds himself caught in an extraordinary sea of events.

My heart was in my throat several times as Jerhad and his companions made the journey from innocence to the saving of an entire world. The distinguished Stanton, the sweet-yet-sassy Andreanna and the host of dwarves, giants and humans that crossed their path are instantly lovable characters. I laughed hysterically watching Andreanna make her place with the "males" she was traveling with-the book so perfectly highlighted the misogynistic views of most of the men in the age before women's lib, and you could just SEE the looks on their faces when she was done with them!

I loved watching the combined armies sweep through the trolls at Breezon like something out of a Tolkien novel. It didn't seem to matter that I knew the "good guys" would win in the end-I still found myself sitting on the edge of my seat and hoping!

The attempts to blend romance into the story were stilted, but I still found myself enjoying watching Jerhad act like a...well, a man as he fell in love! The ending was heartbreaking.

The Prince of the Elves beautifully blends magic, mystery, good and evil in the form of one innocent elf and one evil sorcerer, and the end of the book definitely leaves you hanging on and waiting for the next book. If you love great fantasy, you're going to love this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, this world, these creatures!, November 15, 2010
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
Wonderfully colorful characters that, were it not for their possession of magic, or exceptional strength, or ability to lengthen their lifespans at will, could be found in some not so remote part of the U.S. having human adventures in countrysides that touch the heart with their beauty. All but the most sinister - that would be Daektoch - are either endearing, funny, clumsy, swashbuckling, or whatever human characteristics you'd want them to have. They make us want to know what happens next, what happens to THEM next. As I said, there are beautiful moments of descriptions of nature, especially when it comes to sea and mountains, and that alone was enough to keep me wanting more. I'm not generally one to read fantasy, but I sure liked this one for its heart, humor, and huzzah!

I couldn't hardly put it down. David Daigle put me right in the scene. The tale does not lag. I kept turning the page to see what was next to happen. Loved it. Yes, it has Druids, Elves, evil wizards,Dwarfs, and Gnomes. What good fantasy doesn't. Looks like there will be a dragon in future books. Can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Prince among Princes, October 30, 2008
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
This book starts out quick and doesn't have a lot of slow spots like other books of this ilk. The core characters could best be described as realistic, innocent and sassy! With the vivid descriptions of the surroundings I was able to completely build the map of the book in my head. One of the best things about the book is the character development and growth. I really wonder where a future book may take things. One thing is for sure, I cant wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A walk into flippant with fun on the way, October 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
This book has all the imagery of just about any modern fantasy novel with a twist. The characters all have a real persona, and a few have an attitude! From the first chapter I was drawn into a completely new realm and I will be looking for more in the future. If you like authors such as Piers Anthony and Terry Goodkind then this is a book for you! Be forwarned though the main characters could leave you wishing for the next book before its avail. I may have to consider buying the hardback as soon as its released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prince of Elves took me away!, September 17, 2008

This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
David Daigle's "Prince of the Elves" took me to a delightful other-world on a glorious ride in my imagination.
As a homeschool teacher, I can appreciate this book as an addition to the 'must-have' book list for my daughter, who loves fantasy material. I try to find books, other than the normal educational material, that will capture her interest, which allows her to recall the content well and be excited to do book reports to share what she has read. This book is perfect for capturing the reader and holding the attention, obviously for adults as well as older teens.
As an avid reader, I found (the main character)Jerhad's adventure in the "Prince of Elves" very descriptive. It appealed to the nature lover in me as well because of the vivid and clear explanations of the countryside he traveled. This made it easy to feel as though I were there with him on his journey. Besides which, who wouldn't find dwarves, giants, elves, a fair maiden who can hold her own among the men, and castles intriguing!
Thanks to the author for a great read that I am happy to recommend to other fantasy readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grabbed me right away, September 12, 2008
This review is from: Prince of the Elves: The Frontmire Histories - Book I (Paperback)
After my husband read this first book of Prince of Elves he recommended that I give it a try. While I love every genre from nonfiction to romances, I have a hard time seeing much originality in the fantasy field after having read Tolkien and Donaldson. I told him that I would read the first chapter and then "we'll see". Rarely does an author grab me as soon as this book did. Even my favorite authors may take a chapter or two before they get me. I can tell you exactly when it happened with this book -- It was the last 2 sentences of the VERY FIRST paragraph!

That's it. I began reading and finished it in one sitting. Now, the only negative thing I can say is that I have to WAIT until book 2.
