Good alternative to disposable wipes,
By Mr. Shush (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prince Lionheart Warmies Wipes Warmer (Baby Product)
I've been using these wipes (with the warmer) for about a week now and thought I'd give my $0.02. The warmer itself is great and very simple to set up and use (even at 3 AM). The wipes seem to be a controversial item, however. I like them. I like them a great deal better than disposable wipes. My son seems to like the fact that they're warm (although he's not too fussy about the cold disposables) and they clean him considerably better than the disposables do (I have yet to need more than one cloth warmie where I've needed several disposables). They are, however, somewhat fragile, but I've got a few suggestions for dealing with that. First, don't throw them in the dryer. I don't care what the label says. It isn't necessary anyway. You're just going to moisten them before you put them in the warmer anyway, so take them right from the washer, wet them with the formula of your choice (I like the water/baby wash/olive oil formula included in the package) and put them back in the warmer. Second, make sure you don't wash them with anything that has velcro on it. I guarantee you a cloth will get stuck to the velcro and will get torn up when you pull them apart. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with them and am really pleased not to be adding the crazy amounts of wipes my kid was going through to landfills.

Great warmer, mediocre wipes,

When I started cloth diapering my baby I thought a wipes warmer was a needless luxury. I was wrong. Using cloth wipes, I was constantly waiting at the sink for the water to get even remotely non-icy. Using this, wipes are already wet and warm and ready to go, including when I need multiples for a really big mess. The wipes seem fresh and I have had no problems with moisture escaping and ruining the changing table.
I will say however, that the wipes that came with the warmer are a bit useless. The care tags on them actually say to wash on gentle and not tumble dry. I do not have time to treat these wipes specially, and they shrank a lot and got much harder when I washed them normally. Also, one immediately snagged on a velcro diaper cover and pulled a big run in the terrycloth. I am using other wipes in the warmer and am very happy.

A Must-Have and Great for Cloth Wipes!,

Works great, easy to use. I use cloth wipes, which fit perfectly, stay very warm and plenty moist. I'd definitely recommend this item! This warmer came with 5 free bamboo wipes, which are very, very soft. (But I don't use them. Instead I use the 2-sided terry cloth wipes I bought at Green Mountain Diapers and at Blue Penguin, since they fit perfectly and don't require any folding, like the bamboo ones do.) In this warmer, you can use water--definitely use distilled, so you don't get any mineral deposits. Or you can make your own wipes solution. (I've found that a weak vinegar solution works the best--8 parts distilled water, 1 part vinegar. It's all-natural, cheap, convenient, and prevents/controls yeast diaper rash.) This warmer also comes with a moist pad to keep wipes from getting too dry, and it seems to do the trick. Mine have never dried out or turned brown. Overall a Must-Have! I can't imagine my nursery without this warmer! Cold diaper wipes just seem cruel--especially during a middle-of-the-night diaper change. Who wants to be awoken like that!

Great for cloth diapering,

My mom insisted that we purchase this, and we are glad we did - we absolutely love it! I don't bother with rolling up the cloths, or making "solution" - I filled it with water, and keep a stack of washcloths nearby to dip in at each diaper change. As long as you only dip clean washcloths, the water stays fresh. The wipes that come with the warmer are silly (they are TINY, and fall apart in the wash), but soft while they last. I just use the thin baby washcloths (gerbers sells multi-packs) or regular white washcloths (bought in bulk from Ikea). I like that I don't have to go into the bathroom before each diaper change, or wait for the tap water to heat up. Then we throw the washcloths into the laundry with the dirty cloth diaper. Its great!

Essential for Cloth Diaperers (or Wipers!),

Nothing short of a bath cleans a baby's bottom more thoroughly than cloth wipes with warm water and some sort of solution. This warmer makes the process quick and convenient!
The ONLY reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is the obnoxious "night light" that glows from the front. The thing is SO bright that we have to keep it covered at night. I keep meaning to get electrical tape or something to cover it because it's so glaring. As other reviewers have commented, the bamboo wipes that Prince Lionheart makes are garbage. They fray almost immediately. We use the flannel/terry wipes from Green Mountain. I make a solution of filtered water, witch hazel and Kissaluvs Diaper Lotion Potion, Concentrate in a bowl. Then I plunge the wipes in and roll them one at a time, squeezing the excess water out at the end before popping them in the warmer. The warmer holds about 20 at a time, which will get me through 2 days or so. Then I wipe out the warmer and make a new batch. We have not had any issues with mold and only scorched the pad once when I let it get dry (oops!). The anti-microbial pad is an important part of controlling mold spores, so do not take the other reviewer's advice and throw it away! You need to use it and replace it every so often. I might add that all things diaper-related are easier when you fully commit to cloth, rather than just doing the wipes. You only need one bin at the changing station, laundry is quick and easy, and your baby's bottom is all around happier! Green Mountain has tons more info on their site, which I highly recommend.

Unfortunately this is the only cloth wipe warmer I have come across. It does a good job of keeping the wipes moist, warm, and santitary. Unfortunately the water condenses in the lid and leaks out after being opened. The quantity of water that leaks out is significant enough that it warped the wood furniture on which it was placed. This is the second one I've bought (second kid) and now know that I have to keep a towel with tinfoil under it to soak up the water and protect the furniture below it. It's annoying, but I haven't seen anything better.

Love the warmer, don't buy the refills,

I agree with the first poster. This warmer is very nice and it is worth it to have warm wipes that don't wake a sleeping baby. I bought the refills and after washing the wipes twice, without even using them, a few of them came out shredded. I took them all back. I am looking for other bamboo wipes. I love the warmer, though.

Essential for cloth wipes,

We thought we were just being "green" when we decided to do cloth wipes. Then we had our first foray out of the house with our newborn, and had the displeasure of experiencing disposable wipes. A diaper change that takes 6 disposable wipes takes 1 cloth wipe! And it's so much nicer on our baby's bum to use soft stuff like baby soap, olive oil, and warm water (one of the recipes that come with the warmer). The thing about this warmer is that it not only keeps the wipes warm (I'm not convinced that baby really notices whether it's warm or cold...but it makes us feel better!) but the moisture keeps circulating in this closed unit, which means that you mix and pour your solution once per batch. All the wipes stay wet. Also, throwing these in the wash and rolling them into the warmer takes no time. I think I can roll and stuff an entire batch in under a minute. Just make sure you have enough with your laundry rotation that there are always enough to put into the warmer.
The unit includes some of the company's wipes, and I will say that they're the worst of all four we've tried. They started unraveling after 3 washes. The Satsuma Designs Organic Wash Cloths and Wipes 5 Pack, White are the best. They are thin but absolutely do the job. You can roll the most into the warmer, which means you're refilling less often -- a huge plus when at home with new baby! The GroVia Cotton Cloth Wipes and Babykicks 10 Pack Baby Wipes, Colors May Vary are really nice, but they are much larger, so they take up more room in the warmer and don't yield a better result. Needless to say, the GroVias and Baby Kicks are great for spit ups and such, too, though. If I had it to do over, I'd register for all Satsumas, and I would have registered for extra moisture pillows, too. As for the reviews talking about discoloration -- it's hard for me to tell whether discoloration comes from olive oil mix deposits, or the warmer. But at the end of the day, they get clean, and they're bound to be used for messes anyways, so I guess it doesn't bother us. Overall, a terrific, essential product if you're doing cloth wipes...which you should! They're so much more efficient than the disposable variety!

Baby girl is three months old now and we use this wipes warmer daily. The cloth wipes that came with it are ok, but I prefer the fleece clothes I bought on Etsy. Warm and wet is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold so it is important that you keep the unit clean. I fill the unit with dry clothes and add about 3 cups of warm water with a tablespoon and baby wash and a couple of drops of tea tree oil (natural antibacterial). I use all of the wipes and then wipe down the unit and start fresh. When I first started using it I would just keeping adding wipes and water daily and that's when I would get the funk. You don't want the same water hanging out in this thing for a week. If you can keep up with that you'll be very happy with the wipe warmer. There's nothing better at cleaning up ooky poop butt than a nice warm wet cloth. I also use the clothes to wipe my daughter's face after feedings. She loves it.

A Different Approach for Warm Wipes,
This review is from: Prince Lionheart Warmies Wipes Warmer (Baby Product)
Rather than putting our wipes in the warmer, we leave out the the little pillow and just put our wipe solution in the warmer. Then we dip our wipes in the water when we need them. The water is always the perfect temperature and we don't have to replace the little pillow (we just replace the water every day or every other day to keep it fresh). This is much easier for us. We use the wipes the warmer came with though they are pretty tiny and not soft anymore (I don't think we were suppose to dry them), but we use baby wash clothes more often. I would not buy the wipes. They were also destroyed by a bib with velcro on it. So happy we have this though! Makes getting warm cloth wipes a cinch!
