5.0 out of 5 stars the throne is taken by the clown, April 21, 2005
By fool house "cossar" (glasgow, scotland) - See all my reviews
it is a genuine rarity to hear songs that are obviously so known to pollard that he doesn't even feel that we need to hear his imaginary arrangements as he and the core group hurry through each take, to channel the mighty and altogether HUMAN heart of these songs. these are the perfect/ demented pop songs we wrote in our heads as children, as we walked downtown trying to distract ourselves from the awkward embarrasment of self awareness. songs with so much threat and so much forgiveness all at the same time. this record is a reminder to all adult listeners that the possibility of these songs being number one in another dimension is not just a possibility but a place gbv hold the door open to.

3.0 out of 5 stars 4-Track Not-Quite-Classics, December 27, 2000
By G. Preston (Baltimore, MD United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of GBV's more rustic sounding releases, fans will nevertheless want this to have recordings of "Matter Eater Lad" and "Johnny Appleseed", two great songs that occasionaly make it onto GBV setlists. The combination of very chaotic performances (by Bob & Jim Pollard & Tobin Sprout) with imaginative uses of feedback make it a very distinct, if somewhat annoying, experience. Maybe a star should be added here for originality, but that could be said of any GBV offering. It's probably the lesser of their mid-90's 7" EPs.
