5.0 out of 5 stars Old-school type game play.
What I like about this game, it's great for non-advanced players. For people who like the old-school style playing without too many buttons to push and easy too control, yet still a challenge.

2.0 out of 5 stars The franchise is going backwards
I've played both Revelations and Rival Swords, so I am a little biased when it comes to Prince of Persia. This is easily the weakest of the lot. I've played a few levels of "Forgotten Sands", and I am pretty disappointed.

This is a 2D side scroller, and a pretty weak one at that. The prince can only go forward and backward, up and down. There isn't much...

4.0 out of 5 stars Some extraordinarily unfair criticism leveled at POP:FS, September 5, 2011

I know few people will care to read this review for an overlooked PSP game written long after its release, but I felt I had to correct a few things from the other reviews. For one, this is NOT the 3D Forgotten Sands game available on 360 and PS3. Aside from the freezing of water and other time manipulation effects, this game has very little to do with that one. Why you'd expect it to be or conclude that it MUST be a carbon copy of the other (really bad) Sands Trilogy ports on PSP is beyond me. If there's one thing Forgotten Sands on PSP does really, really well, it's remind you of the original (and still probably best) Prince of Persia... which was, yes, a 2D game! Now, it's not identical to that game and there are some problems--combat chief among them. The combat is unresponsive and feels slightly broken due to the inordinate amount of time it takes to kill some of the most basic enemies. The bosses are similarly lame. Thankfully, combat is the exception in this game, not the rule. The adrenaline-rush platforming is where it shines.

I'm not going to lie: the game is also very difficult in later portions and not incredibly long (about 5-6 hours without the repetition of dying and starting a large portion of a level over). However, there are tons of secrets, the precision-based platforming is incredibly fun for a latter-day Prince of Persia game, and the look and feel of the game will give you pangs of nostalgia for the original PoP. If you like the challenge of speed runs in games like Mirrors Edge, you'll feel right at home here.

The graphics are also quite good and sharply lit so I'm not sure why some of the other reviews bagged on them. In fact, the presentation in general is triple-A quality for a game that released on the PSN store and in retail with little to no fanfare. Overall, this is a very good game, and if you enjoy 2D platformers in the vein of the original PoP, you WILL enjoy this. Just don't expect 3D and don't expect the game to take it easy on you.

The critical review that perhaps best encapsulates my feelings about the game is Gamespot's 6.5 rating. I advise you to go read that, although I would probably score the game a notch or two above it (7.5-8). It's not perfect, but it's damn fun.

This game is more about jumping and going through obstacles at the right time. This game is not really a fighting game. I'm almost half way of the game. IGN gave 6 out 10 as Passable. I like it.
Some say the graphics are not that good, but not all 3D games are good neither. I enjoy this game more than Assassin Creed: Bloodiness for the PSP.
Look at some trailers or gameplay on youtube before you decide to get this game.

There isn't much skill or timing to the jumps and climbing maneuvers. Move the arrow keys (you don't use the joystick to move your character) and press the button to jump, climb, and wallrun. The game is completely linear and has kind of a goofy checkpoint system.

Combat, from what I can tell, is pretty basic. There might be some moves you can unlock or some weapons upgrades, but the enemies are very easy to defeat. Just mash the square button and you'll defeat your enemy in a few seconds.

Graphics are fine, the sound is fine, but the gameplay is just not very interesting. The voice acting is also downright annoying at times.

The good:
- not much

The bad:
- Ubiosoft really doesn't get handheld gaming. You have to play levels all the way through; no save points along the way. The fountains are for regaining life and as a checkpoint if you die too many times. The levels are fairly short, but having no save points is inexcusable.
- The environment is pretty boring. Prince of Persia games have usually featured hidden treasures and life upgrades, which this one is totally lacking.

For what you pay for this game, you really aren't getting much.

I am disapointed with this game, after play the other games of prince of persia this ona is bad, a 2 D game, you can only go foward or back, up and down, no 3d game like the others, I recomend do not waste your money in this games.

Don't buy it! The graphics are about as poor as you can get. It should have come out for the supernintendo. No more 3D like in the previous games. Get ready to be bored with another side scrolling throw-back. The combat is sluggish and essentially developmentally delayed. I would rather read a book than waste another second on this less than mediocre game.Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
