5.0 out of 5 stars Prince Royce is the Future of Bachata
Every so often an artist or group comes along that redefines bachata. Monchy y Alexandra, Aventura, Xtreme, and now Prince Royce. While his debut album is only 10 tracks deep, it's amazing from start to finish.

Xtreme has more of an R&B edge to their music, whereas Royce adds some pop and R&B flavor both to his songs. This Bronx Dominicano writes all of...

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste Of Money
I bought this download on the recommendation of a friend, and what a waste of $7.99 it was. I already had "Corazon Sin Cara" from another download, and the rest of this album is little more than oversimpilfied lyrics to a basic Latin beat. And his uttering "Royce" and "Too Strong" all through the lyrics shows just how in love with himself this little boy really is. I'll...

This Bronx Dominicano writes all of his own lyrics, and the music production is as perfect as a plate of abuelita's mofongo. Even though his Spanglish cover of "Stand By Me" was the chart-topper, I think the rest of his tracks are even more amazing.

If songs like Hoja en Blanco moved you, Royce's "Mi Ultima Carta" will have the same impact. The standout track on the album for me is the love-is-blind themed "Corazon Sin Cara", a throwback to Anthony Santos singing Obsesion on the smash 2002 Aventura album. I also predict that Rechazame is destined to become a club favorite. If you dig songs like "Tempted to Touch" by Rupee, then the album's English tracks like "Crazy" will appeal to you.

It's almost impossible to listen to this CD without dancing. If you love bachata as much as I do, treat yourself today and buy this album.

In retrospective, when i first read these reviews i thought it was a little far fetched to compare this new kid i never heard about to great groups like Aventura and Xtreme, which i'm a big fan of. With this name i thought was kind of corny. But i got the cd and for the past week that's all i've been listening to. The name had to grow on me more than his music did because as soon as i uploaded it to my ipod and listen to it, i was an instant fan. DON'T DELAY AND GET THIS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like listening to a hits album., May 17, 2010
This review is from: Prince Royce (Audio CD)
When I heard Royce's cover of "Stand By Me" I was unsure of whether the other songs would be good or not since some artists can only make hits by covering famous hits from previous artists. However the songs on this album are very good actually. If you like Aventura's "gods project" and "the last" albums as well as Toby Love's debut album, you will like this one for sure. It has the modern bachata sound while still being different from that of aventura or toby love as it should since Royce wrote or co-wrote every song on the album.

Pretty much every song is radio friendly material and no song is filler/album material as it feels like listening to a hits album song after song. It is basically one of those albums where the songs dont grow on you because you actually like them from the instant you hear them and thats whats really nice about it. I highly recommend this album, its definitely worth getting if youre a fan of modern bachata.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Production, March 5, 2010
This review is from: Prince Royce (Audio CD)
This Cd is a definite must Buy. I recommend this Cd 100% definitely the best new bachata artist out right now. This cd is a must buy even if you dont speak spanish it even includes two english songs that are sure hits for this summer also on top of that it includes The Remake Of the Song we all know as "Stand By Me" in bachata which is currently topping the charts of the Tropical Billboards . Prince Royce is a very talented New Young Artist at only 20 years old he is making people all over who listen to his music get up and dance and sing along to his songs. This artist is definitely going to be a top artist in the Latin Industry in the upcoming years. So Take this Review to Heart and Purchase the Album it is sure to Please!!!

This is a great, accessible album. Period. I'm fairly new to a lot of latin music (bachata, salsa, merengue, etc.) and I only speak a little Spanish. Still, I found this to be a great album. It may sound silly to some, but I'm being honest. Though I still have a lot to learn as far as the language goes, the music itself, the melodies, rhythms and singing are all awesome. It's a bachata album, of course, but it mixes things up enough to stay interesting and entertaining. Some artists get boring to me because it basically sounds like the same song over and over again. Not Prince Royce. All the songs are great... well, I feel the Stand By Me dance remix is kind of unnecessary, but thats it. This is one of my favorite bachata albums so far, behind Aventura's The Last. If you're new to bachata, definitely pick this up. If not, well, take it where it's coming from, but I love this album. NEW YORK'S HOLDING IT DOWN!!

Good album, but the gimmick of loving the sounds of one's own name can wear you out. Good dance music and nice vocals.
Royce is like a latin Chris Brown.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scintillating Debut.!, October 1, 2010
This review is from: Prince Royce (Audio CD)
There are times where talent seizes to amaze you and for that one moment in time you say, "Whoa!" That is exactly how I felt when I first heard Prince Royce's self titled album. I don't want to add any more hype or over hype the album and add an incredible amounts of expectations to anyone who might read this and say, "Hey, from what people are saying this kid is a Prodigy." But in all reality when you take a close listen to not only the lyrics but the production in which the album is put together you will be blown away.

Granted there is only 10 tracks on this album which isn't as much as one would like. Yet, in these 10 tracks Prince Royce was able to fuse a Spanglish mix of R&B and Hip-Hop, which in an ironic twist resulted in "Classy" Bachata style. "Classy" in the sense that he blends Violins, Violas, with the classic Spanish guitar sound all sandwiched between some R&B/Hip-Hop rhythmic beats. A lot to describe in precise detail but you get the point, it's something refreshing, it's the Evolution of Bachata and he is the future.

"Stand By Me", is his first single, which gave him the recognition that is well deserved. But I would have to agree with Compay, in retrospective "Stand By Me" was probably his fifth best song on the album, with songs like, "Tu Y Yo", "Rechazame", "Mi Ultima Carta", and my personal favorite due to the message the song sends and the perfect production in "Corazon Sin Cara". The last two or three tracks of the album can be consider club songs but that's whats so good about the album. . the diversity of it, keeps you on edge. What's even more mind blowing is Prince Royce wrote all of his songs and co-produced the album when he was only 19/20, he recently turned 21, making the expectations for his next album unreal. . where does he go from here? It will be exciting to see. Finally, what makes a good album is when you can listen to it and not skip a track and thats what this album made me do. Give it a try you won't be disappointed!
