This is one movie sound track I cannot get enough of. James Newton Howard has really done some amazing work here. He has done other soundtracks including "DYING YOUNG" and several others. I can hear his sound and know it is him before I even look at the writer of music. This music sets the mood for relaxing the morning away. As I sit and read on a Sunday morning this has become my favorite music to read to...a perfect way to start a sunday..........I have been listening to this since the day it came out......GREAT

I fell in love with the movie and got the CD right away. If you are a romantic music lover you will never grow tired of listening to this CD. Ms. Streisand's bonus songs on the CD are superb. I consider it one of the classical CD scores ever made. It's a pity it never won any awards. It certainly deserves more than five stars.

If you love music scores, you definitely should pick up a copy of "Prince of Tides". The music score is excellent, particularly the main theme and the instrumental version of "For All We Know" (very romantic and sexy). This is perfect for weddings and anniversary parties, or for brides to walk down the aisle to. The two bonus songs by Barbara Streisand are great and don't break the flow established by the preceding score since both songs use music from the score, and the lyrics perfectly sum up the themes in the film. Highly recommended.

This is the score that brought James Newton Howard to my attention. I never tire of his score for the Prince of Tides. Of all of his work I like this one best. Often one buys film scores and they were great with the film. However, when you listen to this disc the music does not stand on its own. Tides delivers and is wonderful, rich score with out the film.

This whole CD is so totally fulfilling and then it is topped off with two beautiful vocals by Barbra. I listen to this so often I'm afraid I'll wear out my CD. I highly recommend it. Barbra has once again put her heart and soul into it's beautiful score. You will love it.

Released in 1991, The Prince of Tides was a beautifully made film loved by audiences and critics alike. It became a huge hit, got nominated for many Academy Awards (and created controversy for not nominating Barbra Streisand for best director), and cemented Streisand's status as a credible film maker. However, the praise cannot be directed to the soundtrack.

The score, which sounds great in the film, and complements the fantastic imagery, just does not stand well on its own here. Most of it is very quiet, and unless the volume is turned up high on the CD player, you will strain to hear it. The only track of instrumental music worth listening to is the "Love Montage," which helps you recall some of the images distinctly.

But truth be told, most people who buy the soundtrack will only be interested in the two Barbra Streisand recordings placed at the end. "For All We Know" is a lovely version of the standard, which was subtle enough that it would have been more than welcome in the Rainbow Room scene at the end. And "Places that Belong to You," a ballad taken from the "Love Montage" score (and obviously designed to be a movie theme the same way "The Way We Were" and "Evergreen" were in the 70s), is very well sung, and one of the best songs Barbra recorded in the 90s.

Only the biggest fans of the movie and/or Streisand will have any real need to include this soundtrack in their collection, but there's nothing really bad about it. Just not very earth shattering.

This is one of the most moving musical selections I haved ever come across. Being a Barbra fan is what pushed me to buy this soundtrack. It has a wonderful score which is presented in the 1st track "Main Title". The score is then duplicated throughout the album in different keys and tones to create a completly different feeling or emotion. The final track on the album entitled "The Places that Belong to You" is a wonderful vocal by Barbra. In that song they take the score and add lyrics from the point of view of the two main characters of the movie. I, myself, think that the most notable track on the album is "For All We Know" the Barbra Streisand version. It is a jazz/blues remake of the original Bille Holiday version. Barbra soars through it with intense, pure vocals. The last two songs on the album ("The Places that Belong to You" and "For All We Know") are not featured in the movie but were recorded especially for the soundtrack. Anyone who enjoys Barbra music, clasical music, or just the movie will very much enjoy this soundtrack.

I don't know why but this music touched me in a way that not many other cd's have. I liked it so much and found it so relaxing that I used it to listen to while I labored at home with my third son. It must have worked...had him at home, in the tub...all 10 lbs 4 oz of him and it was almost a painless labor! LOL All this to say that I love this soundtrack!

I was VERY pleased with the quality of the cd, given that it cost me $00.01 and $2.98 for shipping. I thought it would be in poor condition but was quite surprised that it was nearly new and there was no scratch whatsoever! As promised, the cd arrived one or two days after the order was placed. I would certainly order EVERYthing from this seller if possible :-) Two thumbs WAY up!!

Captures the flavor of South Carolina low country. No place like it on Earth. Great movie soundtrack
