5.0 out of 5 stars Hal Foster-Master Illustrator, July 11, 2007
This review is from: Prince Valiant, Vol. 18: The Stolen River (Paperback)
In this volume, Prince Valiant stays close to family and home. He defends his father's Kingdom against maurading Danes, keeps the local Nobles in order and visit's the Kingdom's frontier posts. The highlite of the book is when Val and his page are swept into a raging river and they must use their outdoor survival skills to return home. Hal Foster was an accomplished outdoorsman who spent his youth hunting and camping in the Canadian frontier. Foster's carefully detailed scenes of Prince Valiant hunting deer along a marsh bank are some of the finest illustrations that one will ever find in this medium. In Hal Foster, the Golden Ages of American Illustration and Comics were joined in one very talented artist. This volume is a real pleasure and with a little research can be found for a good price.
