More About the Author

Hal Foster (1892-1982) created Prince Valiant in 1937. Though remaining involved with the strip until his death in 1982, Foster handed the bulk of the scripting and art chores over to his longtime assistant, John Cullen Murphy, in 1971.

In a world of reviews and books where you can't really be sure if "the kids" can read it.....You can be assured that this is the "highest quality attempt" that was made before the advent of the comic versions of Conan, etc. of the seventies....not a swear word there, adhearing to the theme, if not the letter, and yes.....sometimes the letter... , of the original "lyrics" of the Arthurian Legend.....these are HIGH QUALITY..... I bought them to give to my grandkids... 'nuff said.

Another great volume in the reprint series, this one having pages 1189 through 1234 of the strip, or November 22, 1959 to October 10, 1960. In this volume, Prince Valiant is seeking the Holy Grail and has many adventures along the way. And what can come of a quest that starts by the Prince spanking his own wife Queen Aleta for trying to get him to refuse the King's quest since she wants him to stay home. Avalon and Stonehenge are just two of the sites Valiant must search.
Hal Foster's original Prince Valiant was a marvel to behold, and I still enjoy reading them to this day. Each page a mini-adventure, but part of a long arcing series. This huge oversized 13.5 tall graphic novel was first published in this form in 1985, then again for its 2nd printing in 1996. The colors are authentic to the strip, the reproduction is first class. You owe to to yourself to read one of the greatest comic artists of the 20th century. These are very collectible now, and copies of some volumes can run up to $100, but Amazon always has great deals.
