This is a good book for the specialist, but is not something that you would find browsing the aisles of a Borders or B & N. The author traces the development of German legal concepts and their applications in the territories of the Holy Roman Empire. I was expecting each territory and the princes to be cover as independent chapters leading up to when they were incorporated into the empire. More of a reference book.

This is a good book for the specialist, but is not something that you would find browsing the aisles of a Borders or B & N. The author traces the development of German legal concepts and their applications in the territories of the Holy Roman Empire. It is very academic, but definitely readable and enjoyable for readers who approach it with some context. I have a strong interest in *late* medieval German history, and this scratched that itch.
