5.0 out of 5 stars A good laugh
This storyline show the reader what happens when one has an open mind toward new things (and circumstances beyond one's control helps a lot too). I laughed out loud when I read the story. The characters are loveable. The situations are too cute. Lots of openings for many plots and it's perfect for watching the character's growth and developement. Let's see where...

I was recommended this series by a friend and I don't know whether to be happy or disappointed about the turn out.

You're probably wondering why I give this Manga 3 Stars compared to everyone elses 5 Stars. Well that's kinda simple. This Manga is WAY to fast. Its unbelievable how a teenage boy just suddenly jumps at the chance to dress in drag for a few 'bonuses' that the Princesses get.
Don't get me wrong though, I don't mind the unbelieable Yaoi, BL or Slash Manga every now and again but this was a little silly.

Kouno arrives at his new school and in 2 days he's gone from normal kid to cross-dressing Gothic Lolita Princess. Why? Cos the rest of the school (which is all male) thinks he's hot. But nothing steamy or done to place it in the BL/Yaoi section. Then after taking the job after a week he's giving pointers to Mikoto whose been the job since the start of school! You gotta wonder if this kid actually is a bit rainbow underneath wanting to crossdress.

Also I thought it was cruel that Mikoto ~ who doesn't WANT to be a Princess was forced to do it. While Kouno was given the choice. Also, a downer to the situation is that Mikoto is straight. He had a girlfriend so there's another let down to the BL/Yaoi theme happening.

On a last note, the art is gorgeous. The plot...could be better, at least more believable in the characters opinions and such instead of just accepting everything that happens to them without a fight.
This Manga is SLASH. There'll be no BL, kisses or hugs just plain and simple fan service for the gals out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Funny, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Princess Princess Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
I was at first skeptical about this manga since it looked to be another silly yaoi comedy. I always found Yaoi to be better in the angsty, dramatic genre than in the comedies, but this is quite smart and enjoyable. Yuujirou, Mikoto, and Tohru are elected to be "Princesses" in their all boys school to lighten the tension that happens from lack of female company. Being a "Princess" offers certain privileges that help the participant not only pay for their education, but allow them to become successful members of society. The manga is more slashy and fan service than overt yaoi, but that's what makes it charming and so different. The artwork is beautiful and as visually appealing as "FAKE".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Old Fashioned Crossdressing fun, February 28, 2007
This review is from: Princess Princess Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
Anytime you have the main characters crossdressing it leads to a great time. This is an imaginative romp with boys dressing as girls to give their classmates some touch of feminity in an all boys school. The main characters are sacrastic, funny, mean and entertaining to the end. I adored teh clothes and the relationships are definately intridging. It's not your typical situation or storyline that's for sure. For a fun light hearted romp with no major sexual scenes or overtones, give Princess Princess a try.

This has got to be my favorite manga!!! This is a five book series and has a sequel called Princess Princess + which is not done in Japan yet (for those of you who like to know how long it's gonna be before you start)!! It also has a 12 episode anime and a 10 episode live action called Princess Princess D.

OK, now for the manga itself. It's a comedy about three boys (Kouno, Yuu, and Mikoto) and how they deal with cross-dressing and eachother. This was suposed to be a BL (Boy's Love) but Mikiyo Tsuda decided to just make it a story about friends (so far). But, you can deffinently tell that Kouno and Yuu were the couple and I'm hoping something happens between them (I know it does in the anime)!!! In this volume you just get to know the three main charaters (listed above) and how the school works, volume 2 looks like it's going to be interesting (considering how volume one ended) and I can't wait for it!!!

Also, Mikoto is from The Day of Revolution (2 volumes) and Sakamoto is from Family Complex (1 volume, not translated yet). One more side note, Mikiyo Tsuda has another pen name: Taishi Zaou. Nothing has been released under this name in the US yet though... She has also done some co-work with Eiki Eiki. As before, none of these have been released either...

2.0 out of 5 stars Highly Disappointing, November 14, 2009

I was really excited about reading this manga but was very disappointed when I started reading it. The cross dressing and the potential relationships between the characters sounded quite intriguing so I was quite looking forward to reading this. There were a great deal of problems with this book including that it took far too long to get the the actual cross dressing and spent way too much time having boring conversations about it. The dialogue consisted mostly of walls of text about various dull aspects of school life like lunch privileges and sports and goes on and on like this for about half the book before actually getting to the main reason people bought the book. When it finally got to the cross dressing event it was very much a let down. While sometimes the characters can revive a terrible story these characters were remarkably boring and have been seen before in many other books. The only reason this doesn't get one star is that the art was rather good.
