An enchanting story,
By
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
The Princess was the first Wick novel I read, and since then I have read every one of her books. What I love about her is that you know exactly where she's coming from, her faith and love for the Lord saturates each book she writes, and this one is no exception. Perhaps the best part about this novel is the fantasy of it; a handsome, contemporary prince in an imaginary land marries, and falls in love with a normal citizen. Isn't that why we read fiction- to be taken away from everyday life for a few hours? I highly recommend this book and any other of Wick's, for her sweet stories and uncompromising commitment to Christ.

Lori Wick delivers an awesome story,

I am a very picky reader. Basically I read Bodie Thoene and Linda Chaikin. I picked up the Princess one day and didn't put it down until I was finished. Shelby and Nikolai are very complex characters, Christian, but still flawed. They seem so real. They're not perfect, and Ms. Wick makes this obvious. Some authors don't develop the characters all that well. Spiritual characters often seem like they're perfect. While we are reminded of Shelby's sweetness and positive qualities, we're also aware of her mistakes and shortcomings.Nikolai is also a very believable character. He is compliant with tradition, but will have nothing to do with Shelby because he doesn't want her to replace Yvette. Yet he is a loving and caring person, so he realizes his mistakes. This story is about Nikolai and Shelby coming together. Shelby is ready for Nick to love her, but he's not ready. As soon as he begins to realize what a wonderful person she is, it might be too late for her to love him. You can pretty much predict the ending, but that didn't bother me. The excellence of this story is in how we reach the ending. The struggles they go through to love each other and act as a normal husband and wife even though nothing about their relationship was normal. The plot of this story is excellent. It's not your typical sappy romance. It deals with a lot of issues like learning to love. When Nick is in pain over losing Yvette, you feel so bad for him, yet you feel Shelby's loneliness as well. The development of Pendaran is excellent as well. I even noticed how Ms. Wick displays special characteristics of this fictional country. There are hints of a different dialect and you can tell the culture is different. I absolutely love this book. It's wonderful. I would suggest this to anyone out there. It's very spiritual and entertaining.

I loved this novel. The characters, setting, plot all seemed so real and made you want to be apart of it all. I'm only 15, and this has given me a life lesson in love - I think anyone should read this. It has faith, romance, suspense, and fun.

My fave book by Lori Wick,
By Bethanie J Fraser (Perth, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
I first read a book by Mrs Wick only a couple of months ago. I know own over a dozen of her books. The Princess is undoubtedly my favourite so far! As soon as I picked it up, I knew I couldn't do anything else before I finished it. The Princess is a wonderful story of God's faithfulness and love.Shelby and Nikolai are brought together. Shelby wants to love Nikolai but feels that she isn't wanted or needed. Nick is still grieving over the loss of his first wife. Both of them learn that God knows best and that they have to trust in Him, and let His will be done. Sure, the ending is a little predictable, but aren't they in most love stories? What is important in The Princess I think, is the way the characters come to the ending. The way they grow and learn to put their faith in the Lord. The Princess is a wonderful story that really encouraged me in my faith. Well worth the read!

Got me Smilin',
By Megan Cowart (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
This was the first of Lori Wick's 23+ books that I have read, and I can't say how much it has blessed my heart. I read it last night for the 5th time, and I learn something new about relationships, getting on with my past, loving people with all that I have, and just how to be the wife that I hope to one day be. I am a senior in college and at least once a semester I am drawn to this book again because it takes me to a land that I can only hope to be in, and just because of the simple way it is written. I have now gotten about 6 of my friends started on these books because of the Princess. Even my mom read it and liked it - it is a book for all ages, but especially for girls who need a good excuse to read a beautiful love story. It Got me Smilin, and will do so for you too if you give it a chance. Enjoy the innocence of the book itself and may it bring you closer to God.

A Wonderful Christian FairyTale,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
This was my first Wick book, given to me by a friend. I absolutely loved it, and have read it over and over. To the lady who accused Ms. Wick of being wick-ed, I would say, "Why on earth can't the church bring the issues of sexual intimacy between a husband and a wife into the open?" If the church would be more open and honest in dealing with these types of topics, we wouldn't have the church learning about sex from the world. This book is a wonderful example of how a husband and a wife can really learn to love one another, emotionally, physically, and mentally. Above all, it's a STORY! To be enjoyed!I know some Christians who would think it a sin to read Harlequin romance novels. Don't throw stones in ignorance!

This was a wonderful book!,
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
The Pricess is one of my favorite books. Sometimes I think about a certain part of it, go to read that part, and then end up rereading practically the whole book! The story is about Shelby, a woman who marries Prince Nikolai, a stranger to her who just lost his wife. It shows the way their relationship grows and how they both struggle to accept each other. They both have to learn that love is a choice, and they face many difficulties as they learn that lesson. This book shows the power of prayer and love in the lives of two of God's children.

Very Good book for young women who want romance,
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed reading this book. How Shelby acted and treated other people was very important in how she was choosen to become the princess. I think that is important to tell young women that looks are not everything and the only thing, it is what is on the inside that counts. I believe this book really shows that.

Simple, but thought provoking...,
This review is from: The Princess (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
I read the Princess by Lori Wick for the first time recently. It was the first book of hers that I have read, and as such I have none of her other books to compare it to. But just comparing it to other books overall, and my standards for a book, I would say that it was wonderful! Many reviewers have mentioned that it was a very light book, too simple plot, shallow characters, and rather overdone when it comes to sweetness. Well, here are my opinions regarding some of those points. First of all, many have said that it is a light book. I believe that all depends on what level you read it. You could read it as a simple Christian romance, and as such it does fall under the category of light. But if while you read the Princess you compare the story to your own life, it suddenly has much more meaning. For example, could you imagine one day having a King or other famous person come to you and ask you to consider marrying their son or daughter? It would probably be a very hard decision. You would probably never have considered an arranged marriage and might balk at the very idea. One very important issue is of what faith they are. But let's say they are of the same faith, are you willing to put your future into the hands of a stranger? Perhaps you've always dreamed of falling in love with the perfect man, one who has never loved another girl, but you find that the prince (or princess) has been married and still loves their deceased spouse. But you feel the Lord wants you to join with this person in marriage, it would probably be a very long struggle. If you think about what is really happening in the story, it is amazingly complex, and the entire plot provides a lot of food for thought. Secondly, the characters are described very well in the area that matters, areas of the heart and mind. This book gives you a lot of insight into the characters, which I consider one of the most important aspects of a good book. On the other hand, it does not describe their physical characteristics much, but leave them to your imagination. This almost guarantees that you will stop and think about the book a little, not just skim through it. As for sweetness, it is what makes the story in so many ways. It would just be a totally different story if Shelby wasn't as sweet and Nicolai wasn't as forgiving. Besides, this helps show what a Christ-centered attitude should be like. One more point, the commoners versus royalty issue. I believe that that shouldn't really be an issue for any Christian, and in the book the prince's parents first of all wanted to find someone that was strong in their faith, would support and build up the prince, and maybe someday fall in love with him. Royalty was not really an issue there. All in all, I thought this was a very good thought-provoking book and would recommend it to anyone who likes a book that is written in an easy to understand manner, but at the same time addresses many interesting issues. |
