About the Author
Annette LeBox lives in British Columbia near a marshy area inhabited by cranes. This is her second book. Her first, published by HarperCollins in 1996, is called Miss Rafferty’s Rainbow Socks.
A professional illustrator who has worked in both England and Canada, Kasia Charko has illustrated a number of projects, including a recent picture book called The Boogie Woogie Bear. She lives with her family in the small community of Alton, Ontario.

This is, without a doubt, one of my all-time favourite works of literature for children. It is a book to treasure, with all the elements of a classic tale: a meaningful story (with an excellent and gently expressed message about environmental conservation), beautiful jewel-like illustrations, and an intelligent and sensitive main character. Princess Vivian is a wonderful role model, as she is a person who cares about animals, plants, and the earth. I highly recommend this book!
