Sweet but not saccharine,
By
This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
This is a small book with a big mission. All proceeds from the sales of this book go toward rescuing Siamese cats in Western states. But it's definitely not a scholarly treatise on the plight of homeless cats. The photos of the narrator, Siamese cat Fiona, are endearing, and the story is sweet and heartwarming. This is a true story, in first person from the point of view of the rescued cat. It may be told fairytale style, but it's not saccharine or preachy. The book is fun and funny and very well done. It straightforwardly tells the story of two abandoned cats and how they find a good, permanent home ... not coincidentally with photographer Montagne. I highly recommend "Princess Fiona, My Purrsonal Story" as told to Kari Winters. This would make a great gift for any cat lover or animal advocate on your list.

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW,
This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
This is a lovely story of a Siamese cat named Princess Fiona, and her very special cat friend, Liam. The little Princess and Liam started their precious life's on the streets in California, but were lucky enough to be rescued by CASA, which is the California Siamese Rescue group that labors so hard on behalf of so many hurting animals. Told through the eyes of Princess Fiona, from the start of her life to the present, it is a cry for understanding their plight and a prayer that her words will awaken the 'human beans' to what is happening to helpless animals on the very streets they live and work. She speaks of her birth, the fears she felt at the start of her life, and her joy at being placed in a loving home. She shares with the reader the abuse that her friend Liam suffered from the hands of human "beans", before he also found the love he deserved and the safety of a home. And she shares the sad truth that not all of these precious creatures will be as lucky as she and Liam have been. Many are born only to be tortured by cruel 'human beans' and never are allowed to experience the love they long for. Touching to the very core of your soul! The story is told in a way that is eye opening to the plight of these helpless animals and with the help of the magnificent photos that fill each page you not only hear the heart cry for help, that is often ignored, but are able to see pictures of the little life's that has been given a new beginning, one filled with love and not hate! The lucky ones! As Princess Fiona tells her tale you learn what CASR is all about, you understand their work and their purpose and just how important they are. The story tells you how they work with these cats to help them emotionally adjust and live in harmony where they are adopted. One of my favorite parts of the story was Wuffy, a beautiful dog who nurtures kittens that have been abused and tries to bring them comfort. After seeing and reading about Wuffy no one could possibly believe that animals do not have deep feelings. She not only told the heartbreaking story that is so common for so many animals, but she explained in detail the work of CASR and she did it in such a way that you wanted to rally around Princess Fiona, join paws with her and the workers of CASR and make a difference. You really need to buy this book. It's a wonderful well-told true story, beautiful photos of adorable felines on each page are a plus, and you are contributing to a great cause. CASR is the California Siamese Rescue; it is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the welfare of Siamese and mixed Siamese cats by finding them loving homes and responsible owners. Please take time to check out their website! May be you too can make a difference! ...

A Loving Story,
By A Customer
This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story is truly a labor of love! The story of Fiona and Liam is a thought-provoking reminder to us all that there are far too many cats that are put to death needlessly everyday in this country and around the world. As stated in this book, even "special breeds" end up in local animal shelters. Why not look there first and save a life in lieu of "official papers." Felines from breeders will secure a home and live a good life, however, most cats that end up in the shelters will be sentenced to death because someone didn't care enough to ensure their survival!

This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
This is a gentle little book, appealing to adults and children alike. It is told from a cat's point of view (Princess Fiona) and relates the story of her adoption, and the adoption of her soon-to-be Prince Charming, Liam, into a blended family of loving animals and humans. It is written in a heartwarming style by Kari Winters and illustrated with adorable color photos by Stephanie Montagne.Plus, ALL proceeds from the sale of this book go to help more cats like Princess Fiona and Liam at the California Siamese Rescue. Neither Winters nor Montagne even received any payment for their services; everything went to CASR. BRAVO!

This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
This is the most darling book. I purchased it after I adopted a Siamese cat named Simba, yes, the very one that was talked about in the book. Fiona thought he was her Prince but she soon found out he was a King. My family, our dog Saffy and I are featured in the book and I had the honor of meeting Fiona and Java. This is a true story with a real fairy-tale ending. Good for all ages. --from one grateful family, The Barnetts. p.s. Simba is doing very well these days and is as beautiful as ever. (I've also purchased this book as a Christmas present for family members.)

This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
This wonderfully written, beautifully photographed book tells the true story of two formerly homeless Siamese cats who find love and each other in a permanent, "forever" home -- something all too elusive for many homeless cats and dogs. The story is told with a gentle humor that will appeal to animal lovers of all ages while stressing the less fortunate plight of many other homeless and abandoned pets. Buy and enjoy this book! You'll be glad you did.

Endearing with a message!,

This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
Is there a cat lover in your life? Perhaps a child who loves animals, but isn't aware of animal homelessness? Perhaps a friend who regularly rescues the neighborhood strays? "Princess Fiona" by Kari Winters would be the perfect gift for the animal lover in your life. This sweet tale, told by Princess Fiona herself, chronicles the story of a "feral" kitten that finds her way into a loving home. Passing through the loving hands of rescuers and foster homes, Fiona eventually learns to fit in, even befriending a dog named "Wuffy"! This charming story allows those unaware of the plight of homeless animals to be enlightened while not being exposed to an emotionally draining story, which makes it perfect for children. All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the California Siamese Rescue, making it an endearing, yet practical gift with a message!

Fairy Tale (tail?) comes true!,
This review is from: Princess Fiona: My Purrsonal Story (Paperback)
"Once upon a time..." there was a loving cat advocate named Kari Winters. Kari wanted to publicize the plight of homeless cats, especially the stunning Siamese. Kari's first book is told in first-purrson by Princess Fiona herself, and accompanied by lovely color photos. The touching, loving tribute not only details the rescue of two special felines, it also opens a window on the wonderful advocacy of CASR (California Siamese Rescue) and similar groups that do the work of the angels. There are a few minor glitches in production--text printed on a few photos is hard to read--but the writing is spot-on and the pictures are quite lovely. Told with humor and affection, "Princess Fiona" will prompt readers to get involved by adopting a furry waif into their home and heart. This fairy tale has three happy endings--the two cats find loving homes. And Kari has brought to light an important issue for cat lovers. Every cent of the purchase price for this book goes to CASR--so buy one for yourself, and several as gifts for the cat lovers in your life. That will make a few more fairy tales come true! Amy D.
