Bought this as a birthday gift for my 7-year old niece. Auntie received much kudos for this gift. She immediately popped it into her DS and she seems to really enjoy the game.

My title refers to Disney not doing that great a job (IMO) on the movie that this game is based on; I work with little kids, and not one - no exaggeration - was completely happy with the movie. Anyway, this game has that same feeling, as though something is missing: Other reviewers are correct, by the way. One, there is alot of reading in this game, and not all of it is easy (juniper?); it's also important to note that the recipes mentioned are, in fact, real recipes that the child can make, hopefully with a parent's assistance. There are also a half dozen songs to select from and then they play - and that's it...no gameboard to go along with the song, just the music, and then you move onto the next one. There are a couple of levels where the player is supposed to collect gems and blow things off of the game screen - yep, this is one of those games where the player has to blow into the DS to make something happen. We haaate those, probably moreso because everybody in our household is asthmatic, and I'm not being funny. It's ridiculous to think a kid is going to sit there and blow an average eight breaths into the game unit to complete the task of moving trash from the sidewalk (actual task). You can see I am not giving this much of a recommendation at all, but I am trying to be fair and stick with three stars, because what's ok with us may make others completely happy. But...like the movie, we kind of looked at one another, shrugged and asked, "So, that's it?". Hope this helps other moms and dads -

Got this game because my daughter loved the movie so much that they wanted the game to go with their DSi console. They played it a lot when they got it but soon moved on to other games. I actually tried playing this myself and it was OK.

My daugter is 8 and she and I both loved the movie so i knew shed love the game. She has played it everyday since she received it. The audio is really cute too. It requires a bit of reading so it was not be for smaller children but was perfect for my little one.

I bought this for my children for Christmas and they really seemed to enjoy it. They like the activity of "cooking gumbo" and played it for hours. Kids must be able to read to play this game without adult intervention.

MY DAUGHTER DID NOT LIKE THIS GAME. FOR ONE IF YOUR DAUGHTER IS 5,6 AND DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO READ YET.DO NOT BUY IT BECAUSE IT REQUIRES ALOT OF READING TO REACH YOU OBJECTIVES. I PLAYED IT MYSELF AND FOUND IT TO BE BORING.

Just bought this for my 5 year old daughter. She really loved it. Had to read some of the texts in the beginning, however, she very quickly picked up the story and how to play.
She loved the game and has played it intensively. I like the fact that there is no killing, dying and the stress of getting points is very well balanced. |
