3.0 out of 5 stars Cute film
This movie isn't quite the best of the era, nor is it very good, but it's still an enjoyable film made by a now-defunct film company. The usual messages are here - bravery, loyalty to friends, etc. For an animated fantasy movie, this is typical fare, but it's still a decent film.

This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin (DVD)
This movie was one of my favorites growing up, and everyone around me that I have shared it with has fallen in love with it. The story is about the adventurous Princess Irene. The princess is off playing in the woods when she is attacked by goblins pets. She is saved by a mining boy named Curty. They quickly become friends and get into a lot of trouble. The goblins attack and Irene must rely on her own magic to save Curty, and in turn the entire kingdom. (Yes the story has a happy ending ^^ )

The story teaches the importance of believing in yourself, friendship, not keeping things inside, and the power of a song. I would recommend this story to any child boy or girl. However, there are a few scary parts in this movie, nothing bad compared to what kids are exposed to these days but I would advise that the parents sit and watch the movie with that child the first time through just in case it doesn't met that parent's pretence. (There is a spot where the ground starting moving at the beginning and a hand comes out and grabs her. Of course she gets away! If your child can handle the movie The Black Cauldron, then this movie is fine!)

One warning to parents, this movie becomes a quick favorite, so I would advise ear plugs because the movie has been known to be played so a lot.

I would recommend this to any child; I hope this review has been helpful!

This is a fantastic movie. The animation is dated from the movies of today but you will not mind because the plot is an outstanding family movie for kids and adults. A great movie to watch togetehr and discuss the plot and ethics. MAD

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat suprised., July 20, 2010
This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin (DVD)
I have just recently re-watched this movie and found myself suprised that it was not so painful to sit through, it was actually rather amusing to me.

I had watched this movie when I was very, very young and, like most old cartoons I loved so much as a kid, I expected it to be very annoying and corny like some of my other 'childhood favorites' [example: Scamper]... ok I admit it's still corny but not all that annoying, the worst part was probably the boy's singing.

There is plenty of action, though the movie is long, and is a good watch for any child. I would recommend it and plan on happily adding to to my odd stock of DVDs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just too old, July 17, 2011
This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin (DVD)
I haven't seen this movie in years so I didn't remembered much about it. I watched it just last week. I loved it as a kid and remember thinking it was scary and funny, but now that I've watched it again I've realized that I've grown too old for it. The princess is your stereotypical princess and there are some parts that if you are a teenager or older you won't understand, because it just doesn't make sense. I did love the song that Curty sings. If your no longer a child I do not recommend this movie, but I definitely recommend it for your kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected., April 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin (DVD)
I got this on a whim. I remember when I was young that I liked this video, as we rented it a few times from the same place. It is a lot better than I remember, though it IS meant for a younger age group. The animation is just amazing. The story is not that bad, either. The only thing is that the song they sing a few times can get stuck in your head pretty easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique fairy tale that my 4 yr. loves, March 26, 2011

This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin (DVD)
This story is cool. It has a unique story and the characters are children instead of teenagers like most other princess involved fairytales. My daughter absolutely loves watching this. She feels braver at night because she knows you can sing and it scares away goblins. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A blast from the past!, January 22, 2012
This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin (DVD)
It is one of my favorite movies that I loved watching as a kid. Even as an adult it's still great to watch. Disney movies and other cartoons like this one never get old. Me and my sister still have Cartoon days that we spend together.

This is a good movie and the Goblin's are not scary to kids...just funny. It is a little lengthy, but you certainly get your money's worth of drama, excellent cartoonage and music.
