OUTRAGEOUTTHHH!!!!! My favourite movie!,
This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I absolutely adored this film when I was younger, and now I'm in my late teens... and I still find it hysterical! Although the animation is a bit cheap at times, it's all a part of "The Princess and the Goblin." You just learn to love it.
The music is strange, there is a King who whispers almost ever word, and a goblin prince with a wet lisp who sprays saliva over everyone. It's friggin' awesome! One of the strangest parts is when Princess Irene and her friend Curdie ("the mining boy!") look up at the sky. Irene says "Look Curdie, the moon!" and they explode into hysterical laughter. The movie is made of psychotic moments like this. My dad and I have created a running commentary for it. THINGS TO LOOK FOR: Some of Sigmund Freud's beliefs about mother and son relationships (very.. freaky.. overtones..), a Pig-Man in the background of one scene, rumpled sheets in Irene's bedroom after the prince finds her... Just to name a few. Although I've looked into in waaay too much, this is a cute and funny film that will be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.. If not for different reasons.

Fine Family Entertainment,

This UK adaptaion of an old victorian classic is a big hit with my four year-old.Evil goblins living underground plot to capture a princess and marry her to a goblin prince and thus take over the kingdom. The princess is helped by the magical ghost of her grandmother (voice of veteran British actress Claire Bloom of Brideshead Revisted, The Haunting, BBC Hamlet, etc, fame) and a brave boy from the village. The goblins are pleasantly scary but mostly farcical - my daughter thought them funny, and she also liked the songs. The big difference this film has with the usual Saturday morning fare, and even many Disney movies, is that it is not nearly so loud. My four year-old loved it, but her eight year old cousin, while not disliking it, was clearly perplexed by the lack of volume and found the story somewhat strange. It might be best for children who have not been exclusively inundated with typical Saturday morning TV. Most of the voices are British, a few are American...

The Princess and the Goblin has been my favorite movie for about 10 years now--and even though I'm a lot older, I still absolutely love it and find it very entertaining! The animation is excellent, the actors are wonderful, and the music is beautiful. People say it's "just a kid's movie," but I don't think that's true at all. I watch it almost every day and NEVER get tired of it. The book is also wonderful. I recommend this movie to people of all ages. It's a true masterpiece!

My Favorite Childhood Movie!,

This review is from: The Princess and the Goblin [VHS] (VHS Tape)
When I was a kid I would watch this movie all the time! It had great characters, people and goblins, and it was a marvelous story! I haven't seen it in the longest time though because I got older and I got into other movies, but every now and then I think about it and I wish I had it to watch it! Infact, it was my favorite movie growning up, and my parents always rented it for me and my sister at a movie gallery and I never got tired of it!I recommend this movie to all people, young and old! It's hard not to love it!

I don't know why people are giving such bad reviews for this movie. i loved this as a child. As you get older you can point out the mistakes but just enjoy it. I loved how the princess wasn't afraid to do things and helped defeat the goblins rather than sit back and watch. The "weird weaknesses" and "lisps" are for comedic humor. Remember this movie's audience was for children, not adults, they need something to keep their attention. I highly recommend this movie, as someone who loved it growing up and i still loves it as a young adult.

This movie is not "extraordinary," but it very fun and is another movie that I continue to enjoy very much, years after I first saw it. The animation isn't great, the names tend to be somewhat strange and the music is okay, but young children will get so much out of it. It is just fun, and that is enough for me. It is a simple story. I do highly recommend it.

Questionable movie. Read the book (Tolkien fans: see below),

Fantasy literature existed even in the 19th century, and this movie is a testimony of that - it is based on the children's novel by George Macdonald (which should be in print). However, the movie itself is a very poor adaptation of the novel, both on a technical and conceptual level. I'm sure Macdonald didn't envision his characters breaking into song and dance in the middle. And the beautiful atmosphere created by the book's illustrations is nowhere to be found in this movie. And for an interesting anecdote: the book is worth seeing/reading simply because it is, reputably, one of Tolkien's favorite childhood books.

OK Movie; but Cool Cat!,

My kids loved it, so I recomend it with children who are under 10, I DID like the Goblins' devil blue cat however. The animation with him was pretty neat, I also liked the part when the princess stroked him in her sleep mistaking him for her cat, while he purred with delight, (I am a devoted cat lover) otherwise it's a cute show for the kids on a rainy day.

Pretty good,

I loved the movie when I was little; I watched it all the time! I finally watched it again last week, now that I'm a teenager. The plot was pretty good, that animation was pretty good, but the music was...AWESOME!!! The main song is about the "spark inside us all" and I LOVE that song. I watched it with a friend, and we were making fun of the movie until it got to part with the song...then we were like "Wow, this is pretty cool!". So the movie is worth it just for the song. (I'm currently arranging it for piano)
