I had to use this in Germany and now I use it for speaking Spanish with friends. Very user friendly, Great Looking Piece & great deal for the price.

I bought this to take to Germany and Italy with me on vacation. Once there, discovered that the word I would imput in english was a completely unrelated word in Italian and German. In other words, table, in italian and german was not the word used in those countries but rather a completely different word than the translator came up with. This was the case in spanish also. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS, YOU WILL NEED A TRANSLATOR FOR YOUR TRANSLATOR. YOU WILL LOOK STUPID IN THOSE COUNTRIES.

The pre-programmed phrases a pretty good, but there should be more. And you have to scroll down through all of them to get to the one you want. Then if you switch to Word translation and then back to Phrase translation, you jump back to the beginning of the phrases and have to scroll through them all again. The Word translation dictionary must be small. Many words I entered were not recognized. Basic words like alcohol or hairdryer were not recognized. This item is more of a toy than a useful translator if you are immersed in a foreign county.

I am returning this product. I could not get it to work at all, and I followed the relatively poor directions to the letter.

I bought this translator for Italy, and it provided translations about 70% of the time. Menu words and road sign words were among those not found, and I would have thought that someone designing a basic translator would have included these. Overall, it's adequate and is probably worth the price.

If you want your friends to look foolish give them this translator. I tried to ask where the bathroom was and I asked for the 'room' and when I tried to ask for the check I asked for the menu. Totally useless!
