2.0 out of 5 stars Not Pleased!!
I have finished almost all of the books in this series, and found this one was not very well written. It seemed to me that the author didn't have a good grasp on life as an early high school student. Having read a plethora of other books based on the life of high school students, I found that this author had the least knowlege of it. Mia Thermopolis, the main character...

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!!, March 8, 2002
15-year-old Princess (New York teenager) Mia Thermopolis is back once more in her third hilirous diary of her life! During this time in her teenage life Mia has got everything anybody would want! Shes got a boyfriend, Kenny, fame, and on top of that Princess of Genovia! So you would think Mia would be pretty happy right? WRONG! Kenny is definitely NOT the right guy for her. Micheal, Lily's brother, is the one she has always wanted. However everything seems to go wrong and now she is trying to aviod further smooches with Kenny. And now Micheal is going out with somebody who is definitely more intelligent that Mia and most likely can clone fruit flies. On top of that her mother is now pregnant with her stepfather's baby. Oh yeah, did we mention that Mia's stepfather is also her Algebra teacher? And guess who has been failing algebra for a long time...? Plus, Mia has got the added pressure of preparing a speech for her nerve-wracking entree into the Genovian society. Things aren't looking to good for her. Maybe Lily can turn things around when they hatch a plan to get Micheal back.

After reading the first two diaries Mia wrote I couldn't wait for this one and it didn't disappoint me! Mia is still her old self with her sassy and funny humor which makes you laugh out loud. This book also had some emotional parts in it too which grips you. All and all a great book! It definitely lived up to my expectations. However I heard that this will be the last of Mia. I really hope that isn't true though. I recommend this book to all teens who love to have a laugh of two!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Live the Princess, April 6, 2002
I am almost 18 years old (just a few years out of the young adult reading level), but I love this series. The books are written in such an endearing, humorous style that it's almost impossible not to like them. The third book picks up about a month after the second one left off and we quickly learn that Mia's life is still full of quirky problems.

While the previous books dealt with Mia's desire to have a boyfriend, this one centered around her dilemma of getting rid of one. Normally, this topic would be written so that the boyfriend, Kenny, seemed like a jerk who was keeping the girl from being with the boy, Michael, she was supposed to be with, but instead Kenny is written as being nice and sweet and an ideal boyfriend. Except for one thing, he isn't Michael.

Besides her boy problems, Mia is still being sentenced to the often hilarious "princess lessons" with her grandmother to prepare for her visit to Genovia. Mia also has problems with family, friends, cheerleaders, school (especially Algebra), and achieving self-actualization. In other words, she's basically a normal teenage girl with an extraordinary life.

If you haven't read these books, I would highly recommend giving them a try. They are nothing like the cutely sappy Disney movie of the same name, except for the general plot idea and character names. These are books that are always entertaining and impossible to put down- no matter how old you are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can This Series Get Any Better?, April 2, 2002

(REAL NAME)
Mia Thermopolis and her crazy life are back. Only this time she's facing more obstacles than ever. Her mother is officially married to her Algebra teacher, and pregnant with his baby. Not only that, Mia now has a boyfriend (Kenny), who she likes as a friend, not a boyfriend. Michael (Mia's best friend Lilly's brother, and the guy Mia is in love with) now has a girlfriend. Some girl who can clone fruit flies.

Now Mia is determined to break up with Kenny, pass all of her Finals (even Algebra), and confess her love to Michael Moscovitz before she has to leave to be introduced to the people of Genovia, if it kills her.

Meg Cabot has done another excellent job and brought us more hilarious misadventures of Mia. This is a must read for any fan of "The Princess Diaries" book series, or the "Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging" book series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Second, March 30, 2002
I was really looking forward to reading the last of this wonderful series. I couldn't wait to see how Mia dealt with her enormous crush on her best friend's brother Michael. What Meg Cabot delivered did not disappoint. I finished the book in two days, but only because I had to force myself to read a bunch of chapters of Great Expectations for a quiz the next day. Otherwise, you bet I would have gobbled the whole thing up in one day, its that good.

True to the rest of the books, Mia gets herself into some monumental scrapes involving a Genovian fashion designer named Sebastiano and the fact that she can't stand to kiss her current boyfriend, Kenny. And as always, Grandmere is in the fray, making all sorts of trouble. Add an Algebra final that Mia needs to ace, and you've got one heavy stress load for a princess.

To anyone who is reluctant to read the books because the movie did not leave a favorable impression, I urge you to atleast give them a try. The books are much more teen oriented and much funnier. Anyone who does not find humor in this series needs to heck for a pulse. Meg Cabot has truly created a masterpiece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Princess Diaries: Princess in Love, December 11, 2003
A Kid's Review
Mia Thermopolis is a normal fourteen-year-old girl living in Manhattan. Well, as normal as a girl can be with a boyfriend she doesn't love because she's in love with her best friend's older brother. He happens to be a senior at her high school and just might be going out with a fruit fly cloning senior. All the while, her current and first boyfriend, who is also her Biology partner and the only reason she's not flunking that particular subject, still hasn't asked her to the Christmas Dance at school. Oh, and did I mention she's a crown princess? And that her first visit to the country, Genovia, that she will someday rule ("population 50,000 and less, but still") is coming up?
I'm a lover of fantasy, but this series, of which Princess Dairies: Princess in Love is the third book out of, has reintroduced me to the wonders of fiction and realistic fiction. This book is very funny! Mia always ends up getting herself into trouble, and is always worrying about something or another. If you need a funny fictional book, definitely check this one out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Fun, March 28, 2002
By A Customer
If you've read the other two books in the series, you know what fun it is to read about Mia. Her life is absolutely hilarious! In this third book, Mia is determined to get rid of her new boyfriend Kenny, only she doesn't have the guts to do it; finals are coming up, but she really doesn't want to study; she has to give a speech in Genovia in a few weeks, and just the thought of it makes her want to throw up; and she's still in love with her best friend's brother, Michael, only she thinks he has a girlfriend. And, above all this, there are millions of other problems that simply compound Mia's life. Half the fun in reading Cabot's book is Mia's very prominent voice, though the situations only get funnier. I recommend this book whole-heartedly (the books are ten times funnier than the movie), and I can't wait for her fourth book coming next spring, Princess in Waiting.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite so far, October 8, 2004
Okay, I'll admit that maybe I am a little old (23) for teenage girls' books... but Meg Cabot has a way of writing that is appealing to the girl in all of us! I couldn't help but smile throughout this entire book. I recently read Volumes I, II, and IV, and this is by far my favorite. Cabot is right on the money about the thoughts and emotions that teenage girls have.. liking a boy vs. wondering if he likes you.. etc. I can remember having those exact same feelings in high school. The whole Kenny/Boris incident is hilarious, and as ever, Cabot's references to pop culture are revealing and witty. Her humor is uplifting and right in touch with American culture.
Princess in Love is, in particular, well crafted, much more so than the others. It had a flow to it that I found appealing. Cabot is an expert at plot weaving, while also remaining true to portraying everything from Mia's perspective. A+++

Any teenager will relate to the feelings of Mia. It was adorable, and made us gaze off into our own daydreams of the day when we find our prince!

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the same, only better..., August 23, 2002

If you've read the last few books in the series, then that's basically what to expect from this newest one, the same kind of stuff - only much more complicated this time. This time around we learn that Mia's mom is pregnant with her Algebra teacher's baby, which adds a whole new twist to Mia's life..she'll have a new step-sibling soon! As she prepares for finals, she struggles with having a boyfriend that she doesn't even want (much less like very much), while still trying to pursue Michael, her best friend Lilly's older brother (who is heading off to college next year). In this book, Michael has a new girlfriend, who Mia feels that she just can't measure up to - especially considering that this new girlfriend can clone fruit flies! As if that wasn't enough, Mia still has to attend princess lessons with Grandmere, to prepare for her upcoming visit to Genovia, to meet the public during her Christmas break.

This was definitely my favorite book of the series so far and the ending alone makes the book worth buying - even in hard cover. I'll be watching for the next book in the series, Princess in Waiting which hits stores April 2003. Can't wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mia's Back and In Love!, May 2, 2002
By
Marian (Cerritos, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Princess in Love, the third volume of the hilarious series written by Meg Cabot, is mainly about the everyday life of Princess Amelia Thermopolis. Mia states how her daily life is in great detail through her diary, starting from her unbelievable princess-in-training lessons with her Grandmere, queen of Genovia, to how she deals with life as a teenager in Manhattan. In this particular volume, Mia finds herself growing further away from her unwanted boyfriend, Kenny, and into the arms of her all time crush, Michael (who coincidently is her best friend's brother). Aside from these problems she has to face and find solutions to, she has to deal with her mother being pregnant with her algebra teacher's baby, her fashion designer cousin from Genovia who can only pronounce the first syllable of a word, and to overcome her fears of talking in front of 50,000 Genovians. Cabot has given this book a terrific storyline in addition to the previous ones, and I truly recommend this "diary" for everyone to read and enjoy.
As I have mentioned before, this story is downright funny. Every event that occurs is simply hilarious and I can't do much but giggle at Mia's character. My favorite moments of the book are mainly when Sebastiano, her Genovian cousin, does his best to speak in English, but in the end, he can only pronounce the beginning of each word. Another great part towards the end of the book is when Mia finally gets her wish at the winter carnival. Of course, I shouldn't mention the perfect ending, just to spoil other readers' eagerness to find out.
It's not just the comedies of this book that make it enjoyable, but the events that Mia has to face. Her life was turned upside down in just one day, the day she found out that she was a princess of an actual country. It could be a dream come true for anyone else, but to her, it was a disaster. Although Mia is a fictional character, her situations faced at school are like any regular teenager's, and to me, I find it fun to read in a teenager's point of view. I want to find out her feelings, and how she deals with her problems. After reading this volume, I can't wait to find out what happens in book 4!
