Book Description

Mars February 1, 2001
Ex-confederate army captain John Carter finds himself unwittingly transported to Mars, while fleeing Apache Indians. This new world is populated by a race of monstrous Martians, whose culture is based on the ability to fight for their race. Fortunately for John, the gravitational difference between Mars and Earth has endowed him with the strength that he will need for survival on this hostile planet. John Carter battles ferocious Martian creatures, but gains the respect and friendship of the Barsoomians. He also encounters the beautiful Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, and earns her everlasting devotion. This is the first of eleven in the popular 'Martian' series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

I read this story when I was 8 and loved it. Burroughs' stories are entertaining and fun to read - his characters are vibrant and the plots are straight forward. The heroes are clean cut with high morals - very much the good guy. His villains are not good people because of their misplaced idealism and must be shown the errors of their ways. There is no gratuitous sex or violence. The ladies are treated with respect and courtesy. When some one is injured or killed it is d I read this story when I was 8 and loved it. Now that I am over 50 and carpool I wanted to listen to these stories again on audio CD. Unfortunatly disk 1 was defective so I sent it back to Amazon.com and they very quickly sent another one (Amazon has GREAT customer service). Disk 1 was also defective in the secend one Amazon sent me. Tantor Media - who publishes these stories refusses to stand behind their products. So if you get one don't wait 30 days or Amazon will not take it back.
Tantor Media will not help you if you buy it from any one else but them.
So if you buy it you are purchasing a great story that may or may not play.
Good Luck.
