5.0 out of 5 stars As good as the movie., October 12, 2001
This review is from: Princess Mononoke (Audio CD)
After seeing the movie, I just knew I needed this soundtrack. I was amazed by the end piano theme. This is a very good CD, and it is even the original. I hope to hear more of Joe Hisaishi's work in upcoming anime.
By the way, don't be fooled. Apparently, the US release of this soundtrack cuts off 4 minutes of extended-theme score, almost the best part of the soundtrack and movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting music of beauty and power, March 4, 2005
This review is from: Princess Mononoke (Audio CD)
Joe Hisaishi has done it again with this gorgeous soundtrack to the wonderful film - Princess Mononoke. When I saw this movie, I was overwhelmed by Hisashi's ability to paint images and evoke emotions with his music. From the majestic mountains to the magical atmosphere, his music never leaves you unsatisfied. It is as though Hisaishi understands what the audience feels when they watch films to which he wrote musical scores to. He doesn't just support the moving images in the film with his music, but he moves with the images with his music so that they become one. This leaves the viewer to experience the magic of animation to its fullest.

The music in this album is simply beautiful. From the march-like rhythms to the soft painting melodies, Hisaishi brings everything you heard in the film and more. Although many of the pieces are very short (usually about a minute to 2 minutes long), they did not fail to satisfy my ears. Instead, it leaves you wanting more. To me, this is what makes an album a great album - the desire to hear more of it. So if you are planning to buy the soundtrack to Princess Mononoke, I suggest you buy this one (especially because it is the original soundtrack). The music is crystal clear and the level of dynamics is great. The music never gets too loud or too soft. Even if you have not seen the movie, listen to the sample tracks and see for yourself. Musical ornamentation has never been so powerfully stated in films the way Hisaishi has been able to provide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and stunning..., September 22, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Princess Mononoke (Audio CD)
Joe Hisaishi has composed the music to other Miyazaki animated movies, and each time he creates a perfect mood. Mononoke Hime is a beautiful endearing movie that depicts war, struggle, life, and death. All these elements shine in each song and make the scenes come alive. If you haven't seen the movie, the music still has a way of drawing in listeners. So listen away, and you won't be sorry. Let's show the music industry that we're over shallow souless songs. This is what I call music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting - Just like watching the Movie all over again, November 7, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Princess Mononoke (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is at the very best of best. It totally captures the spirit of the movie...however many times you have watched it you will requonise parts. Like the movie, the soundtrack has many differnt types of songs - there are songs that you can put on repeat and sleep too....and there are songs that make you anxious and there might be a few that are a tad scary! Overall, if you have seen the movie and enjoyed it, then this is the soundtrack review for you! happy listening!! *turns on track 9 at highest possible sound level*

This review is from: Princess Mononoke (Audio CD)
When I was at their website, they played a little snippet and I was hooked. The next thing I knew I grabbed the soundtrack before even watching the movie. After that, I bought the DVD and has never regretted since.

The music has such power and at the same time, soothing qualities that can only be explained as unearthly. A beautiful piece of art to be collected by all music lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely stunning. No J-Pop here!, June 27, 2001
By
This review is from: Princess Mononoke (Audio CD)
When I bought this CD, my less enthusiastic family banned me from playing it outside of my walkman because they didn't want to have to listen to J-Pop every minute of the day. When I started it up though, I thought I would die from pure rapture. This wasn't J-Pop. It was anything BUT J-Pop. This is beautiful music, ranging from the ominously beating drums of "Demon God" to the beautiful flutes and violins in "Will to Live" and "Boy from the West". This music is tremendous. It's indescribable!!! ....But it fully evokes the beautiful imagery from the film. .... ...it's an amazing soundtrack from an amazing movie!
