What a cute book!,

This review is from: Princess Peepers (Hardcover)
My daughter (4 years old) and I checked this book out from our local library. The first night we brought it home, she asked me to read it to her 3 times in a row. We have since then, read the book several times. It is so much fun to read! It is an age appropriate light-hearted story with the moral of treating people nicely no matter how differently they look from you. It gave me the opportunity to reinforce how mean words hurt people's feelings and the importance of acceptance. The "bully" in the book is a pretty princess named Grumbelina. What a great chance to explain that even though Grumbelina was pretty on the outside she sure wasn't very pretty on the inside, which is so much more important. The illustrations are very cute and many of the phrases (ex."Jeepers" cried Peepers) are "catchy". At the end, when Princess Peepers finally accepts who she is (a princess that must wear glasses to function effectively) she is rewarded!

When my 4 year old needed to get glasses she was devastated. She told me that Princesses don't wear glasses. She was so upset that she would need to wear them. This book was recommended to me to get for her. I'm so glad that I did. What a cute book! The illustrations are super and I see so much of princess peeper in my own little girl! If your little girl is resisting wearing her glasses or you are looking for a princess in glasses - you've found one in Princess Peepers!

This is a great book. I am a teacher and use it in my classroom for various lessons. It's about time that there is a book with a main character that has glasses! I love it.

My daughter is 4 years old and wears glasses and this is one of her favorite books. Even kids that don't wear glasses would enjoy it.

As a preschool teacher, I ordered this book to help a little girl adjust to life in her new glasses. The family took it home to read and talk about and then we read it at school.
The most amazing thing to me was how our little one adapted to the whole concept of glasses after reading this book. (It helps that she LOVES princesses!! Thank you Pam Culvert for an amazing book!!

I was looking for a book similiar to "Who Wears Glasses?" the ONLY non-negative book I can find regarding glasses to read to my beautiful 4 year old (who has been wearing glasses since she's 13 months). She has never had a problem keeping her glasses on. She knows she needs them to see. She takes her glasses off only to sleep. So when I read this book, and Princess Peepers goes virtually 90 percent of the book without her glasses, it wasn't amusing because it was written in such a negative manner (other princesses made fun of her for wearing glasses). I'm going to spoil the ending here: The only reason it's OK for Princess Peepers to wear glasses is because at the end she falls into a Prince -- who also has glasses. Every person who recommended the book to me has kids, but the kids don't wear glasses. When it is YOUR kid who is wearing the glasses, this negative story is not so sweet and charming. I read this to my daughter without having read it myself. At the end she said, "I didn't like this book." No wonder. It put images of girls laughing at a person with glasses into her head, and the "shame" associated with wearing glasses. I think this book did more harm than good in my case. Very, very disappointing. If you have a child who wears glasses, buy "Who Wears Glasses?" That is a book that doesn't one have a negative thing to say about wearing glasses. It is so much more uplifting to read when your child has glasses -- both for the child and the parent.

Adorable and Enjoyable!,
This review is from: Princess Peepers (Hardcover)
What an adorable book and the illustrations are super cute. Princess Peepers is a main charcter that has been much needed...a little girl with glasses, it's about time. My children love this book and enjoy reading it all the time. The word choices are whitty and enjoyable for even adults to read. Thank you Pam Calvert for an amazing book...I am looking forward to the next one soon!

I DO NOT recommend this book. I too bought this book after my 4 YO started disliking her glasses. At the time the reviews were good and the amount of the book you could read on line did NOT include the horrible teasing that is contained in most of the book.
It has the main character (who wears glasses) being called hurtful names by all of her classmates and excluded by them. The author then goes on to have her remove her glasses as the answer to this ridicule. She then falls out a window and onto the prince who wears glasses. They go off together and all the princesses who were making fun of her are on the last page wearing glasses. "Great" morals for your child to learn - she got the guy so glasses are now cool???!!! Just horrible - don't waste your money.

I bought the book, Princess Peepers, for my 4 year old granddaughter who has new glasses. She often will tell her parents that "Princesses don't wear glasses". My daughter-in-law read it to her once and returned the book. It introduced all of the TERRIBLE teasing that can happen which my granddaughter has yet to experience. My daughter-in-law felt it had a more negative viewpoint about wearing glasses than the little girl has yet to experience.

My 5 year old daughter has worn glasses since she was 11 months old. We found this treasure at a local library and have read it several times over the past several months. My daughter thinks that Peepers is silly, fun, and enjoys that she is a glasses wearing princess! Her several pairs of zany glasses are treated like accessories, and she frequently has a different pair with each outfit she wears. In the beginning of the story, the other princesses make fun of Peepers for wearing glasses, but by the end of the story, they realize that Peepers is special and are wearing glasses themselves. This is a great read for both children who wear glasses, and those that do not. Peepers is a princess who marches to the beat of her own drum, and this story shows that that is ok. I hope the author and illustrator of this charming story follow up with other stories about Peepers. We are definitely fans! I wish there were more stories out there with glasses wearing heroines.
