When I found this on Amazon Prime I originally groaned thinking another dubbed version of a really great show. I was thrilled to see it complete with English subtitles.
I really wish Amazon would offer more series and movies as they were originally filmed.

So people will know, this is subtitled and not dubbed. I haven't had a chance to watch it entirely to give a review of the actual story.

From the moment I read the first chapter of the "Princess Resurrection" manga published by Del Ray (unfortunately out of print in America now), I knew that it was going to become one of my favorite things. Indeed, it did, with its bloody hyper-violence and hilarious subversion of harem anime. When I got the chance to watch the anime, I jumped on it immediately. While it is nowhere nearly as good as the source material, Madhouse's take on the series is still a fun and silly romp, even if it is held back by some noticeable flaws.

The basic concept is that teenager Hiro Hiyorimi gets killed by a monster and is resurrected by the titular Princess Hime, who brings him back to life on the condition that he becomes her unconditional servant. Joining him is his busty and painfully stupid sister, Sawawa, who is the token "let's pander to the lonely otaku with issues about strong women" character. Eventually he ends up shacked up with loli android warrior Flandre and the rambunctious, redheaded wereholf half-breed Riza/Liza. Consistently joining them on their escapades are Princess Sherwood, Hime's cheeky younger sister, and Reiri, a vampire with strong prejudice against werewolves. Together they get in various mishaps involving headless horsemen, sea creatures, and a variety of otherworldly baddies.

What breaks this show apart from typical "monster of the week" trappings, though, is the subplot involving Hime's siblings routinely trying to usurp her position. Hime is the princess of the underworld, making her a ruler of all monsters. She's next in line to become the queen, and her own relatives want her knocked off so they can take that honor (with the exception of Sherwood.
