This review is from: P Is for Princess: A Royal Alphabet (Sleeping Bear Alphabets) (Hardcover)
My 3 yo likes this book. As the person who has to read it, I find the rhymes are clunky and I thought the subject choices for some of the alphabet letters were odd. The art on any given page is nice but the style changes from page to page (one page will be cartoonish, one page a sketch, one page photo-realistic) and I personally enjoy seeing the development of one style of illustration through a book. The end result of the forced rhymes and varying styles of illustration is that the book is noncohesive and feels like it was developed one page at a time and then thrown together.

I love the illustrations in this book and the different histories of Princess and other Royal Stories. My daughter really enjoys seeing all the different Princess (Some Real and Some from Fairy Tales.) I will probably buy this book for my Goddaughter and Nieces. Recommend for 3 years old and up.

Not your typical picture book and historical information good for all ages!,

I was truly surprised by this book! The illustrations are magnificent. Several actually look like photographs. Princesses Diana, Elizabeth and others are represented, but also royal terminology and information on lesser known rulers. This book looks like a child's book, but as I read this with my 10 year old daughter, I became very interested and learned many royalty-related terms and facts about royals including Ivan IV of Russia! (Yes, he's the 'zsar' in the book.)
Don't hesitate to pick up this book for a child up to 12 years old, or anyone who enjoys beautiful illustrations and learning new facts. Note: this book is also an AR book of 7.0, earning 1pt. (This means that if your child is involved in this school reading program, they would need a 7th grade reading level to read it and take a test on it.) I loved it so much I'm off to buy more to give as gifts!

A great book to read to your little princess - You can read one page at a time or a bunch at once! The illustrations are great, and it includes interesting historical facts as well.
