5.0 out of 5 stars A hilarious continuation of Mia's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hilarious continuation of Mia's story., June 19, 2001
It's been a month since Mia got the shock of her life and found out she was a princess, and the sole heir to the throne of Genovia. But things haven't gotten any easier - in fact, they've gotten even worse! It's bad enough that Mia's mom is dating her algebra teacher, Mr. G. - but then she announces that she's pregnant! And then her mom and Mr. G. announce that they will be getting married! Of course, with all these horrible things happening, Mia thinks it can't get any worse - until an utterly humiliating interview with her appears on TV and her Grandmere begins to plan a royal wedding for the happy couple. But if anyone can get through all this, it's Mia, who tells it all in her journal, in her usual, hilarious style. This wonderfully funny book continues Mia's story, right from where the first book left off. I can't wait to read the third book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Being a Princess is far from easy, June 30, 2001
It's pretty obvious that Mia dosen't really enjoy being the princess of Genovia. I mean it's pretty stressful for any 14-year-old. She has to take Princess lessons, have a body guard follow her around and one day she has to inherit the throne of a country she's only visited. But now to top it off Grandmere has thrown in another ball for her to juggle, interviews. WHen Grandmere plans an interview with one of the most famous newscasters Mia freaks. And of course she makes a complete fool of herself. And at the same time she has to deal with her mothers new pregnency and marriage (thanks to her Algebra teacher). ANd to top it off she has a secret admirer. Couldl it be Michael, Lily's brother who she just adores? Or is it someone scary? But knowing Mia it will be the most entertaining Halloween you've ever read about.

I found this book to be even better than the 1st book. In this sotry Mia is put in the spotlight (yet again) and has to try to deal. I enjoy these books so much becasue Mia not only has to deal with being a princess, but a normal teenage girl. Her writing style is humorus and makes me reflect on being a freshman and how awkward it was. If you like funny books and diary books (as I always have) read this one. You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it in one day!, November 22, 2001

Rebecca (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
I loved this second book in THE PRINCESS DIARIES series so much that I read it all in one day! It's very hilarious and just a wonderful book. In the second "diary", Mia tells how her life just keeps getting worse and worse a month after she finds out she is heir to the throne of that small European country, Geonvia. It's bad enough that Mia's mother has been dating her algebra teacher for the past month. But now Mia's mother confesses that she is pregnant with his kid and they are getting married! Then Mia receives a letter from a "secret admirer" from her school telling her that he's loved her even before he found out she was a princess...which gets Mia guessing who it could be (hoping that it's her best friend's older brother, Michael - who seems to have an interest in her), and whether or not her father has secretly bethrolled her to some other prince she doesn't even know! While all this is happening, Grandmere insists that she get this interview from some famous interviewer and Mia ends up spilling a lot of stuff about what goes on in her school - and making some of the students angry at her, especially her best friend, Lilly. Then Grandmere tries to turn her mother's wedding into this huge giant glamerous one with a ton of celebrities even though her mother and algebra teacher only wanted a very small one. Even Lilly ends up falling for Mia's cousin, Hank, when she helps him get a contract for being an underwear model! IN THE SPOTLIGHT is full of surprises and laughs. It's a great teen novel and it is written in diary form so you really get an insight of Mia's life as a princess. The book is a fabulous sequel to the first, which I loved as well. I am hoping that Meg Cabot writes a third novel to this awesome series and if she does, then I will definitely read it. If you've read THE PRINCESS DIARIES (and enjoyed it), then I highly recommend IN THE SPOTLIGHT. This book is great! :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars The fun continues..., January 6, 2003
Princess Mia is back and better than ever! For fans of the first book, The Princess Diaries, the next in the series, Princess in the Spotlight, will offer more fun and excitement. A great series for girls (or grown-ups!) with an easy, breezy style that keeps the pages turning!

Mia Thermopolis is trying her best to be a simple teenager despite the fact she is the sole heir to a small European principality, the country of Genovia. Her gawkiness and typical teenage angst is the prime target of Mia's grandmere, who has been giving her "princess lessons" after school. But then things start happening that rock the already shaky world that Mia has now come to know. First her mother makes a shocking announcement that leads Mia to spend days obsessing over. After that, grandmere sets up an interview for Mia -- on national television. But the icing on the cake -- Mia's new secret admirer. Who is the boy behind the mystery e-mails? Is it her crush, Michael? Or the annoying, violin playing Russian, Boris? Or -- gasp! -- could it be the boy that complains about the corn in his chili?!

Princess in the Spotlight is a fun read that will have readers laughing off their seats. A cute story that breathes with life. Teenagers will be able to relate with most of this story (irregardless of the princess thing), and grown-ups will have a great time reminiscing about the by-gone days of high school, crushes, and hanging with your friends. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, September 2, 2001
By
If you liked the first princess diaries book, you will sure get a kick out of this one!
Fifteen year old Mia Thermopolis is struggling to be a normal teenager. Boys, homework, boys again. But on the other hand she is the Princess of a small country named Genovia. Things are getting hectic in her life, Mia's mom is dating her algebra teacher, (by the way what is her worst subject!) everyday after school, Mia still has princess lessons taught by her grandmother Grandmere. Mia has a secret admirer who keeps on sending her letters, but won't tell her who it is. She also has a crush on her bestfriends brother who by the way only thinks of Mia as her sisters bestfriend. Even though Mia is the princess of a small country, you have to look on the other hand. She is also just a normal teenage girl trying to live a teenage life! If you want to read a GREAT book, pick this one up, and you will never be able to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Sequel to the Best Book!!, July 3, 2001
By A Customer
I bought The Princess Diaries not knowing if it was a good book at all. I really love The Princess Diaries because of the way Meg Cabot made Mia so realistic. When I heard there was a continuation of the first book, I knew I had to buy it. This book is even better than the first. Anyone who liked the first book, should definitely read the second book!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A hysterical read that's a bit too stereotypical..., September 28, 2001
By
"chelsea102" (San Francisco Bay Area) - See all my reviews
When I first decided to write this review, I was going to give it 5 starts, because honestly, I think it was a great, and very hysterical read. However, after reading Susan Williams's review, I realized that she had some very good points, and that this book isn't perfect. It's main fault is the Mia is very stereotypical, and really a bit stupid for my liking. Since Williams did such a fantastic job dissing this book (in a thoughtful way though), I won't go into the details, but encourage you to take a look at her review.

However, the Princess in the Spotlight, was very comical, and I found my self laughing at the turn of very page. It has everything a 7th to 9th grade girl wants in a "fun read" book, romance, friendship, a non-realism aspect (she's a princess for God's sake!) a crazy relationship between Mia's mom and algebra teacher... You get the gist of it. In conclusion, I would recommend this book as a purely fun read, but not as something you should expect to get a great insight out of. Oh, and please read Volume I first, it makes this book sooooo much funnier!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Princess in Progress, January 28, 2002
A Kid's Review
I would definitely recommend Princess in the Spotlight to a mature reader, who can handle adult situations. Mia Thermopolis is better than ever, and so are the problems she deals with. Almost everything is going her way until her big interview on one of the hottest news shows, where she accidentally spills all of her secrets to the entire country. Now most of her friends, family, and teachers are upset or hurt by her. While caught up in princess lessons, algebra review sessions, and trying to fix the disaster she created, Mia starts getting e-mails from a secret admirer. I will leave the rest for you to find out. If you liked The Princess Diaries you will love this book. The end is not the best, but the rest of the book more than makes up for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first, January 27, 2002
A Kid's Review
Okay, the language in this book is sometimes (not always) inappropriate, and I'm young to read this book, but I can relate to some of Mia's problems. I thought that this book was awfully funny, though.
