More About the Author

Daisy Piper has always loved reading children's books. After earning a degree in English Literature from Dalhousie University, Halifax NS, she decided to try her hand at writing her own children's stories, and hasn't stopped since.

"Growing up, I spent a lot of time at our local library, and that's where my love of books began. I would disappear into a story so completely, it was really like going to another world. Now, I create my own stories which young readers can dive into, like I did," Daisy explains.

Princess Callie and the Totally Amazing Talking Tiara is the first book in an exciting new series which features humor, fantastic creatures, and a tiara that talks back!

Callie, an ordinary girl, gets a series of messages in her Alpha-Bits on the
morning of her twelfth birthday. The messages tell her that she is a
princess and that she must find the secret world of Abilon to fight the
battle that prophecies have foretold for centuries. Callie eventually finds
the way into Abilon with the help of her best friend Lewis and her dead
mother's diary to finally end the evil clutching the land. But not without
some unwelcome guests.

I liked this book because it's about an ordinary girl thrown into a land of
mythical beasts, war and some really weird clothes to finally find her
place, as Calandria Arabella Philomena Louisa Anastasia Richards - Princess
of Abilon. It's amazing, wonderfully told and the best part - hilarious!

Princess Callie and the Totally Amazing Talking Tiara is a cute tale of one young girl's journey on which she ultimately finds herself. Filled with witty humor and a magical land of its own, this book will surely delight younger readers as they get lost in the world of Albion.

I really enjoyed reading about the world of Albion, and the way in which it had its own customs and history. Albion is a magical land much different from ours on Earth. On Albion magic is possible, but only those who are part of the royal family can master it. Also, in Albion there are things like animated gargoyles, interesting assortments of food, and of course, one talking tiara. It was so much fun getting to read about the land of Albion as Callie explored the palace's nooks and crannies, and learned all about herself as well.

There was a very lighthearted, upbeat quality to Princess Callie and the Totally Amazing Talking Tiara. The writing was humorous at times and would entertain any young reader. It truly felt like I was reading a fairytale of some sorts as I read how Callie's life went from normal, to beyond abnormal. However, there were also times when Princess Callie and the Totally Amazing Talking Tiara took on a more sinister, dark feel. Some chapters were told from a different character's perspective and you could feel the writing turn to a more ominous side of the story. I really enjoyed seeing the story unravel from two very different perspectives.

I think it would have been nice if this book was a bit longer though, so it could contain more history about Albion, and possibly Callie could have spent a longer time there as well. Callie's visit to the world of Albion felt rushed, and things were moving so quickly.

Callie Richards has had an ordinary life. That is, until her twelfth birthday. When she was younger, her mother died in a tragic car accident, leaving Callie and her father behind. Even though she has had to live without a mother, Callie has had a good life. She is surrounded by love from her father and her best friend, Lewis. The only person that seems to hate her is the class bully, Wanda.

Wanda is horribly jealous of Callie, and seems to have made it her personal mission to make Callie's life miserable. When Callie receives a mysterious gift at school for her birthday, Wanda's jealousy reaches a new height. She eavesdrops on Callie and Lewis while they gaze at the beautiful necklace Callie has received, and discovers that Callie and Lewis are about to embark on a grand adventure. Later that night, she follows Callie and Lewis into a secret tunnel that acts as a magical portal to a new world. Wanda is tired of being unloved and overlooked; she is determined to make a name for herself... no matter the cost.

When the trio reaches the other side of the cave, Wanda has disappeared. Callie and Lewis begin their adventures within the walls of Albion's palace. While she is there, Callie learns that she is a princess--and the rightful heir to the throne--of the kingdom. Stranger yet, the Queen is her grandmother! All of the news is exciting; except for the part that names Callie as the sole defender of the kingdom against the evil Raven Queen. Armed with her new (and often uncontrolled) magical powers, her best friend Lewis (the newly appointed Royal Advisor), and a nearsighted dragon, Callie sets off to defeat the Raven Queen and save the kingdom of Albion.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a very original fairy tale, full of action and mystery.

My 11 year old recieved a kindle for Christmas, thus far I have been disappointed in the lack of good deals on books for her age (we have been paying the same price as paperbacks). Here is the exception!! Downloaded this book for free and my daughter LOVES it. Going to check out the other Callie Chronicles right now. Thank you Amazon for putting up a great deal for young readers!

(This review is also posted on Goodreads.) In a nut shell: Callie found out on her twelfth birthday that she is the Princess of a magical land Albion, and that she alone can save it from an evil Raven Queen....and the talking Tiara is an heirloom that protects its wearer from danger.
This story is definitely for the much younger generation, but it entertained me nevertheless. It's not exasperating as I find some children's fantasy to be. The action is fast paced, and though the fantasy part is Narnia-nish, Callie's earthly problems are very real and believable. To Callie's 12 year old logic, her father's imminent marriage to would-be stepmom Sharon is a final goodbye to her mom's memory. Her worries get side-tracked when she finds the portal to Albion and prepares herself to battle the evil queen who happens to be her mom's sister-- and murderer. Callie rose to the occasion with the help of her best friend Lewis. I guess the story is well told because I didn't find myself fumbling for the storyline. It was a light and easy read instead.
