5.0 out of 5 stars love the i/r vampire story
this is a different spin on a vampire love story but i loved it and i hope Michelle Downes writes the second story to this wonderful romance. If you are looking for a I/R romance with a black woman go no further read this one you will love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting for what it it was, not a vampire love story
Princess and the emperor definitely is a science fiction romance novel. It's not a vampire love story either, the character's don't drink blood to survive, but rather it used for the emperor to bond with his mate (one time only from my understanding) so if you are looking for a vampire book as opposed to the previous review this isn't it. I have to say after reading it in a few short hours I didn't know what to think of it at first. The book starts rather quickly. I do like Mechelle Downes writing style, but at many points she is too descriptive especially at the beginning of the novel. The book has 69 chapters and their all short, so don't let the number fool you, it's only 203 pages long (it's definitely a quick read). Her chapters are very short, some only being a page or a paragraph long while others are four or five pages long. I should also add she has no chapter index, which threw me off, but wasn't a necessity. After I got used to that it wasn't an issue. Like most stereotypical romance novels their are definitely specific and explicit sex scenes a few times throughout the book. I wouldn't recommend this for teenagers or the immature reader. I will say that once the story got going, I was taken with it and enjoyed it. I like Downes description of Tan-Shin's empire and various countries. I do think Princess's description was too stereotypical of the black female. I also thought Tan Shin was a bit ridiculous considering his description, he sounds like an Asian guy hopped up on steroids (he seemed like the typical romance novel lead male, big, strong, and masculine). But after a while I ran with it, after all I'm the reader, I didn't write it:) I wasn't moved Downes her physical descriptions of the people. I like the book. It was a quick read, I just wished their was move development of some of the characters. I would have liked the book to be longer. The sex scenes or sexual comments weren't need in my opinion, they didn't enhance the story, or add to the characters over all appeal for one another. I feel like it could have been depicted in another way. I would have also liked to know more about Princess. I plan on rereading the book again and see if I missed anything important since I did rush through it, but if you like romance novels (that include sex scenes), science fiction novels (not overly science ficton), and interracial romance then give the book a read. I've started to read interracial romance novels and this was my first, hopefully it gets better from here:) (that's not a stab at the book or the author, I'm just saying this book was a good place to start).

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable science fantasy romance story!, February 12, 2011
This review is from: Princess and the Emperor (Kindle Edition)
Princess Jones travels through space and time to find love in this I/R sci-fi romance.

After tragedy strikes, Princess is transported to the planet of Emperor Maximilian Tan-Shin.
She must battle the conflicting emotions in her heart, while he must protect her from
unscrupulous forces in his empire before they can truly be together. The story has an
interesting court intrigue subplot, loosely tied to the bond the emperor shares with his mate. In her debut novel, Downes creates an exciting new world with a rich setting and plot that moves along at a smooth pace.

If you are looking for a book that's futuristic, packed with adventure and sexy romance this for you!
