5.0 out of 5 stars Princeton Tec apex Extreme - Best headlamp ever!, April 26, 2009
This light is the brightest on the market, hands down. With the new plastic belt battery pack, there is no more heavy bump on the back of the head. Besides that, I had the older model, the batteries went bad and ate through the hard plastic. Princeton Tec repaired it by upgrading to this new belt battery pack, per request, free of charge. Could not have asked for better customer service. Now both my husband and I have this headlamp which we use for camping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Princeton Tec Apex Extreme Headlamp, December 29, 2011
This review is from: Princeton Tec Apex Extreme Headlamp (Sports)
I just got this for Christmas, and wow, this is an impressive light. The light output is just about all that anyone could wish for and the setup has only a couple of minor issues. I'm an electrician and have been using it in a totally dark basement the last few days. I really like the high setting of the main beam. The first night I took it out it didn't seem all that bright until I realized that I only had the peripheral LEDs on; then I switched on the main beam on high and lit up the whole back yard--in the mist. I think it's just about bright enough to use it while driving a riding mower or small tractor in the dark.

The first issue I have with the light is the plastic belt clip on the battery holster. It doesn't lock onto my belt nearly as well as the metal clip on some of my tool belt accessary holsters, and so the battery pack has come loose several times and then 8 AA batteries drop to the end of the wire and yank on your head--ouch. It's probably not good for the wire connections either, so I would urge Princeton Tec to change over to a spring metal belt clip.

The second issue is that the switching takes some getting used to. One switch turns on the high output LED and then toggles between high and low and if you hold it it turns off. The other switch operates the peripheral LEDs much the same as the other switch, but they're also inter-tied to shut off the other LED set so that you can't have all LEDs on at once. I can't really think of a better setup but it takes some getting used to.

So, this is a great light, and I think if Princeton Tec would change over to a quality spring metal belt clip I'd give it 5 stars.

ordered one of these a couple months ago. Thought it worked great. then one day the main beam quit working. wasn't sure if it was a switch or what. Called the company, got an RMA, sent it back and ~ 2 weeks later i had a brand new one in the mail box. It would have been nice if the turn around was quicker or they had sent an email after receiving it, but I'm probably being a little too picky. This is my second Princeton Tec product and i though both of them were great. Now if i could just find the first one...
