5.0 out of 5 stars Bright light & many options for price, January 4, 2007
This review is from: Princeton Tec Aurora Bike Light (Sports)
I have been using a headlight for years when I work night shift at the hospital. When that light gave out, I bought this one. I like having the three settings of brightness.

Though I had a light on my bike handlebars, I wanted to get a light that would go on my helmet. It came down to two choices and I went with the Aurora since I had been impressed with it at work. It turns out that it is brighter than the light I had on my handlebars that I paid more for just last summer. Now I wish I had gotten an Aurora for my handlebars, also.

Worked really well for what I wanted it for. Nice it had the different ways to attach. I do wish the attachment for the handlebars were metal rather than plastic. Nice option to remove light when not in use. I often wonder about theft if left on.

it works really well. I use it as a strap around my head though the clip it comes with for the handlebars is very secure as well. I love the modes for bright to dim, I mostly use the 3 second delay flash. haven't had to change batteries yet but am sure it shouldn't be to hard to.

PROS: long battery life, excellent illumination, superb customer service

CONS: batteries difficult to change, only water resistant

I have had this Princeton Tec Aurora light (in headband form) since 2003. It served me extremely well in ordinary use -- hiking, camping, fishing -- until July 2009, when it inexplicably would not turn off. Despite fiddling with the battery connections, the problem persisted. (Opening the battery cover, by the way, required sturdy use of a coin to pry it off and a brief visit to the internet for advice, as this was not an intuitive process.)

When I contacted Princeton Tec, they responded to me promptly, sent me an RMA#, and within a few weeks after sending them the misbehaving unit, they sent me back a new Aurora. (Now THAT'S standing behind your product!) I was pleasantly surprised. The six years of service for the original device was impressive enough, but their warranty support proved to be even better.

I highly recommend this Aurora light and the customer service of Princeton Tec.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, February 28, 2009

I've had this one for almost a year now.

What I like: Unlike many other bike lights (esp. the rear ones) there is NO WAY you could lose this one.

What I dislike: I like my bike lights to blink. However, this one has so many options that it takes 5 pushes before you get there. And if you miss it or push too slow, you have to start from the beginning (rather than keep going in a cycle).

This little sucker is really bright. Don't shine it in people's faces.

I also really like that it came with many different ways to mount. My favorite: a head strap so that you can use this as a headlamp. It also came with a bike mount and a strip of velcro to mount it to... well, anything pretty much.

5 different light settings.

Easy on/off/switch modes button

Good mode selection (bright, not so bright, blinking at different rates)

Easy to clamp on head

Great for doing small work tasks

Blinking setting is very strong and batteries last forever at that setting

Very light weight
