5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best small flashlight on the market
I have used this model flashlight regularly, in rugged daily use, for more than a decade. I've taken it camping and used it around the house, but as a contractor I use it all the time in heavy duty applications. It lives in the tool pouch on my belt and I take it everywhere. I have owned probably a dozen of them because I stash them in useful places.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bright but short
This flashlight is extremely bright, one of the brightest I've seen, with a well focused beam. It is a very compact unit, but requires two hands to turn it on or off. Unfortunately the bright light drains the batteries in just a couple hours, which is disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this for backpacking - guess I have to buy a new one, June 23, 2010

I love this flashlight. Took it with me backpacking many times, my pals were impressed with the light it produced with so little a weight. It's also great as a emergency light for the car.

Bad news, We just had a tornado warning and I dropped it on the garage floor running to help the kids in to the basement. Think I have to completely replace it as I can't find a replacement bulb, and if so it would probably cost as much as the flashlight.

If you don't need to use it for long spells: walk to the tent, find a friendly hole, get to the tent - this thing is great!

Got this one at clearance at REI. No such luck now ;-(

Had a Tec Blaster - can't recommend, battery life is too short and beam is weak.

I have never broken one, but I have sadly lost a couple--one inside a wall and one down a drainage grate. I have only burned out one lamp, and that was immediately after a battery change, so I think it was some kind of fluke power surge or something.

This is an extremely bright flood-beam light. It is way brighter than incandescent and LED lights of its size. It is extremely durable, waterproof, and operates reliably over the long term. The one I carry in my tool pouch now has been there for more than five years. I am sort of amazed, and it's become a bit of a spectacle for me now to see how long I can keep using it.

Batteries last quite a long time during intermittent use, I would say longer than its rated two hours. I rarely have it on for longer than fifteen minutes at a time, so perhaps that's how I get better life out of it. One downside with battery life is that it doesn't give a lot of warning... once it starts going dim it goes out pretty quick. Within a minute or two of constant use for sure, but if you use it intermittently you can get about a dozen 10-second bursts before it's totally dead. This happened to me in a steam tunnel once and I had to go about a hundred yards feeling my way through the darkness.

It is compact, the twist on/off mechanism works flawlessly, and it is a nice shape. The oblong tube resists rolling and is easy to bite or pinch between your chin and shoulder when your hands are full.

The lanyard attachment is a nice feature, but the hole is so small there's only enough room for a single strand of small string. Definitely too small for a clip attachment unless you use a small split ring in between. If I remember correctly, it comes with a 1/4" keyring for that purpose.

This is a GREAT flashlight. I'm stocking up to be sure I have a long term supply in case they get stupid and discontinue it or replace it with an 'improved' version.
