I highly recommend this book! I aced my Anatomy and Physiology I class with it. It is very thorough, with lots of diagrams and pictures and detailed explanations. Start by reading the chapter outline and then chapter summary, so you know what the chapter is about. Then begin reading the chapter, and if you need a precise defintion of one of the bolded terms (these are very important), consult the comprehensive glossary at the back of the book! The lab manual is very helpful when you are preparing for tests or trying to recall/memorize information and diagrams. The Learning Guide (by Prezbindowski) is also helpful, but not really necessary since the textbook has it all.

Best Anatomy and Physiology Textbook,

This review is from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Atlas and Registration Card (Hardcover)
I used the third edition of this textbook when I was enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology I and II in college twenty three years ago. It is still used by the college I attended. The present edition (11th edition) which I purchased is the number one Anatomy and Physiology textbook. It explains every anatomical term and concept very well. The artwork is fabulous in showing the Anatomy and different Physiological processes. It is the best Anatomy and Physiology textbook for a two semester Anatomy and Physiology course.

Great text for the beginning of your medical course,

This text really is a fantastic resource for someone beginning studies in medicine or medicine-related fields. Clear, precise illustrations, with the right amount of detail for the first year of a course, enable quick learning of the basic principles of structure and function. It is also written very well, set out sensibly, and provides clinical correlations to remind the student how the principles they are learning relate to clinical situations. Highly recommended.

Superb text,

After going about six years without reading a traditional anatomy and physiology text, I was surprised at the advanced level that this book has reached, as compared to the texts I read during the first few years of this decade. This book offers numerous resources, from special pathological sections to online excercises. In addition, every chapter offers highly detailed diagrams and little tidbit sections to help students better understand the material. Thus, no matter what type of learner you are, this book will offer a way to learn the text that totally fits your style. For those who learn better by seeing and listening, the online material will be helpful and the diagrams in the book are quite comprehensive. For those who learn better by simply reading the text, this book provides the material in regular paragraphs, charts, and advanced diagrams. Finally, for those who are already familiar with the material, and just need a quick review, the end of each chapter has a comprehensive, but terse summary of the material.

Well organized book,

What I liked about this book
1. Concise The language used is concise and easy to understand without irrelevant facts 2. Well-organized The chapters are well-organized with a chapter each on chemistry, cell, tissue, organs 3. Colored tab Each chapter has a colored tab on the top of the pages, making it easier to find any chapters. 4. Great pictures The pictures and photos help in understanding the material and are actually quite artistic. 5. Table format Some of the facts are listed in table forms for quick reference. I read Marieb's Human anatomy and I found that the contents and organization of this book and Tortora's book to be similar. But I prefer the "table format" and better pictures in Tortora's book.

A College Textbook Worth Keeping!,
By Tessa, RN (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Atlas and Registration Card (Hardcover)
This Anatomy and Physiology textbook is AMAZING! It is filled with vast amounts of information that are tremendously useful for a future in medicine. It is one text that you should NOT sell back! The information covered in this text will be used guaranteed everyday in the medical field. Especially wonderful are the clinical application sections. My professor was a cardiologist and he would often mention that his neurologist friends said our neuro-text was extremely detailed, more so than they had in medical school! Also, the chemistry is VERY detailed. I would suggest having a chem. course prior to this material, it will make your understanding in the chem. sections far greater as to how they pertain to the makeup of our being.

I love A and P,
This review is from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Atlas and Registration Card (Hardcover)
I was assigned this textbook for my anatomy and physiology class at my university. I now definitely like anatomy and physiology more than biology or chemistry. This book was pretty complicated,..... but it was not hard to read. This book has great diagrams and pictures that helped me with learning the locations of muscles and nerve innervations. I also found out about excellent anatomy and physiology study guides that come in three volumes which were totally helpful when I needed to know the kinds of questions that I would be asked on my exams. The name of these study guides are: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations (Volume 1: Orientation of the Body, Cells, Tissues Integumentary System) by Patrick Leonardi Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations (Volume 2: Bone Tissue, Skeletal System, Muscle Tissue, Muscular System) by Patrick Leonardi Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations (Volume 3: Nerve Tissue, Spinal Nerves & Spinal Cord, Cranial Nerves & Brain, Neural Integrative, Motor & Sensory Systems, Autonomic Nervous System, Special Senses) by Patrick Leonardi These STUDY GUIDES helped me so much because the questions in these guides were similar to the kind I found on my exams. I highly recommend these books.
