Great Reference Book,
By adesertrose (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, 10th Edition (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for my first year in dental school. So far, it has been a great reference book. I can honestly say I have referenced it more than any other book purchased this year. Every chapter is easy to read and contains many wonderful and detailed pictures. Tortora and Grabowski do a great job making the material thorough yet concise. For first year dental students, I would definitely recommend it.

Great textbook,

I used this book for undergrad anatomy and physiology. It's extremely thorough and descriptive. However, it is written in an easy to comprehend language that makes studying a lot easier. However, if you really want a great source for studying anatomy and physiology in undergrad, get the following books: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi (Volume 1 and Volume 2) (ISBN: 0971999619) (ISBN: 0971999627) These two study guides are a must for getting better grades on college exams. The author of these study guides knows the type of questions that are asked on tests. For example, my friend took another anatomy and physiology class at another college and used the Anatomy and Physiology Study Guides by Patrick Leonardi and also got very good grades in his class. In addition, I got an A in my anatomy and physiology class at a different college after using the Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide by Patrick Leonardi.

best package - book is thorough and explains all aspects there. it contains a glossary and new terminology is explained after every part of body and system exploration. the attached atlas - shows all parts of the skeleton. it is handy - you can drag it with you anywhere while studying for exams. atlas has also references to book. shame it has only the skeleton and all body systems. the book has two cd-roms attached - one in fron cover - let's you prepare sample exams in order to prepare you to passing the exams. the other cd-rom - is the foundations - first cd in a series of some. book contains only the first - the foundations part. it has animation, pivtures and interactive explanations and also a glossary part. so you can postpon buying a dictionary for the beginning until you have some knowledge and know what dictionary will be best for you. all in all - excelent package for an affordable price. i haven't tried yet the website subscription offer.

Excellent Anatomy and Physio text,
By ... "vilbs" (Montreal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, 10th Edition (Hardcover)
For a new student of anatomy and physiology, this text is incredible. It's got a wealth of material, is easy to use and understand (without being simplistic), and does an excellent job integrating the principles of physiology in with the basic anatomy. It even has some small clinical asides that are both interesting and relevant. I used this book for all of my undergrad work, and have kept it as a valuable reference for my med school anatomy. I also picked up and use a copy of Moore's "Clinically Oriented Anatomy", which is also excellent, yet much more advanced/detailed....for a quick reference I find that I always check Tortora/Grabowski first, and go to a deeper text only if what I need isn't covered in sufficient depth, which rarely happens. This is an outstanding textbook for A&P.

good for anatomy, but go elsewhere for physiology,

This review is from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, 10th Edition (Hardcover)
As a medical student, a good anatomy and physiology text book is key to my education. At the start of 1st year, when I knew little about the subject, this book was great as it explained everything well with nice diagrams. However, there are two main disadvantages of this book: 2. Although good at the start of first year, I quickly found that this book didnt offer nearly enough detail needed for a degree course - especially about physiology, biochemistry etc. There is a third disadvantage, in that this book was actually taken off our reading list because apparently there are some mistakes in the physiology sections (not many, only one or two, but our university felt that it couldnt recommend it to us as a text any longer). This is a good anatomy book, but go elsewhere for other subjects.

Oh man! I studied countless hours with this book. It beats around the bush, gives an incredable amount of definitions and makes it boring! The pictures did not help at all, all I did was ready over and over and over and over again. There is a lot of understanding in anatomy and this book did not help at all. I would suggest taking anatomy at a community college where this book is not used

My anatomy teacher told us that a very high percentage of students that use this book fail the class. I don't know where he got this information, and after getting to know him, he might have been saying that to scare us into studying more. The material is very in depth, but it is also very clear. Personally, I really liked this textbook and the class - so much in fact that I sold the second-hand copy I used in class and bought a brand new one on Amazon for my personal library. It came with a CD that was very helpful, and also with a year of free access to an online site with excellent quizes and photographs. (At least it did when I bought mine) I have had occassion to refer back to it since I took the class some years ago, and expect to refer to it in the future as well.

I am just now completing my third term of Anatomy & Physiology at my local college using this textbook and it has been very interesting and so educational. My instructor followed the book very closely and it was easy to study because of it. The human body is incredibly complex but this textbook puts everything in small compartments so one is not intimidated. I highly recommend this book. It is definitely a keeper.

well I read other reviews regarding this book, many were not very helpful
Strenths- This book does a great job with muscular artistry, some of the details are comparable to netters atlas in visual details, not identification of mustles. The histo and physio are pretty decent, I also use histolgy by gartner and hyatt and BRS physio along with Gyuton for reference, althought not as detailed as those books, it does a great job for a quick into to medical physio. Weakness- if your a medical student, ligament descriptions are almost non existant dispite muscular details, maybe not that important for undergrad anatomy. Also, mustle diagrams not on same page as functional details, I heard this was corrected in 11th edition, finally the neuro section is poor, lacks diagrams, however, this book is not advertizing itself as a neuro book so thats not unexpected, netters neuro atlas is great, overall worth the money.

Brilliant text, well written and beautifully illustrated, - easy for me to work through on my own in private study (not for a course, but I understand first year Medicine students use it too!). I'm really enjoying learning more and look forward to reading 2-3 pages daily to expand my knowledge (Social Worker in Health Setting)
