Editorial Reviews

Review

"One of the reasons why we adopted the Mankiw text was because of its relevant concepts that students could really relate to. I would say to continue with this trend, and also be sure to use examples that relate to the current economic conditions that make sense to a beginner economics student."

"I have used Mankiw for several years, across at least 3 or 4 of its editions. I like the writing in the book--it's clear and exposits the ideas effectively. It covers topics that I want to cover, mostly in the order that I like to cover them. It's at the appropriate level for our students--not too difficult but not superficial either. I also like the fact that this book is very closely integrated with the Aplia system, which I believe is an important learning tool."

"Very student friendly text. Makes economics easy to understand. Some of the other texts would take a lot of reading to explain an idea."

This is the text for my beginning Micro course (201). It has been the highlight of the course. I am using an electronic version which includes a brief introduction to the material at the onset of each chapter by Dr Mankiw, as well as multiple multimedia aids throughout each chapter brief lectures, graphing demonstrations, and exceptional stick person drawings. Terrific explanations and examples, have to say so much easier to understand than the actual lectures for my class. I think I would be lost without this book.

Its a pretty good read, simple, but can be boring if you're not keeping up with the concepts, it might seem like gibberish at that point. But, every chapter mostly refers back to the first 8 chapters or so and every chapter after that is really easy to understand because the author re-explains things and does a nice job to help you understand the dynamics and to speak and understand the language of economics which always seemed so foreign to me with interest, taxes, GDP, medicare, net worth, and all this jazz, but it makes more sense to me now.
I took a 6 week class so I only wish I had the time to soak it in much more

Arrived in good condition and it's a clear and understandable book. However, the book has a lot of figures (graphs, charts) and more often than not it seems that the paragraph talking about that figure is not on the same page as the figure, as in you cannot see both simultaneously. The paragraph will often be on the right-hand page and the figure will be on the next page and I find myself flipping back and forth for that a lot. Not a big problem, but somewhat annoying all the same.

Majority of the time is spent on subjective elements and does not prepare you for the questions relevant to the homework(bundled with this book) or testing.
