About the Author

William J. Germann earned a Ph.D. in physiology at the University of Michigan. One of Germann's teachers at Michigan was Arthur Vander, whose commitment to education made a lasting impression and ultimately inspired him to pursue a career in undergraduate teaching. Germann currently teaches human physiology and a number of other biology courses at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. He believes that a teacher's job is not just to communicate information, but to inspire students to want to learn.

As chair of the Biology Department, Germann spends much of his time advising premedical students and others interested in pursuing careers in healthcare, research, or teaching. Germann's research interest is in the field of electrophysiology and ion channel regulation in epithelial cells. He is a member of the Biophysical Society, The American Association of University Professors, and the Texas Association of Advisors for Health Professions.

Cindy L. Stanfield earned both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in physiology at the University of California at Davis. She was exposed to and became fascinated by neurophysiology research as an undergraduate student. As a graduate student, Stanfield taught several physiology laboratory courses, and developed an interest in teaching. She currently teaches three undergraduate human physiology courses at the University of South Alabama, and continues with her neurophysiology research on sensory modulation. One of Stanfield's goals as a teacher is to expose students not only to the existing knowledge base, but also to the discovery of new knowledge through research experiences in the hopes that students will be excited about science. Stanfield is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the International Associatyion for the Study of Pain, The American Pain Society, Sigm Xi, and the Golden Key Honor Society. She lives in Mobile, Alabama with her husband, Jim, and their cats and dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wanna understand human body functions?, June 30, 2007
Great book to read for better understanding of human body functions. There are good and colorful illustrations in it. Through the guided illustrations and simplified physiological explanations, it makes easier to connect the function of one part of the body to the other.
Well I made good grade on my exam in anatomy and physiology anyhow ... so I can say that this book helped me a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily the best, November 17, 2008
This review is from: Principles of Human Physiology (2nd Edition) (The Physiology Place Series) (Hardcover)
Ignore what your classmates, kaplan, PASS and the professor say - skip the terribly mediocre and incomprehensible Guyton and Berne and Levy and pick Germann up. This is EASILY the best physio book out there. The software package alone will get you through the toughest of concepts. This is one of the best-written textbooks on any subject out there and it makes learning about the human body, with its fantastic images and awesome explanations, fun and memorable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, May 22, 2008
Exceedingly well written, concise, interesting, perhaps life-changing, this book makes the science seem less complex and easier to comprehend. A great study companion for my human physiology course, a major aid to my exam scores. Highly recommended for serious or casual studies, or even anyone with interest in the human body at all. I would even read this on my free time; in fact, Im gonna to go explore the unassigned chapters...
