Informative but unorganized,
This review is from: Principles of Information Security (Paperback)
This book provides a great introduction into computer security in general. As well as discussing the important managerial topics for a career in information security, it provides a basic but comprehensive overview of information security. My only problem with this book is that within chapters it sometimes presents information in a convoluted manner.

I graduated from UAB in the fall of 2004. While attending school I was blessed with the opportunity work as an InfoSec Professional while utilizing Business Intelligence. In the spring semester of 2005 UAB implemented an information security course, i was given the opportunity to audit the course. We used this book in the course, at first i thought that it was over kill and boring, but at the end of the semester i realize that all the information is necessary for students to grasp the concepts of information security. One must remember that information security is still in its infancy as a profession, but it rapidly expanding. This book is great if one need an introduction to the information security profession. I currently have this book in my library, where i still use it as a reference when writing information security related papers for ACM.

Good read, easy to follow, and gets right too it!,
This review is from: Principles of Information Security (Paperback)
This book does a great job covering the basics and then some. It has just the right amount of vocabulary and does a great job at covering the topics that matter without a lot of fluff. I would recommend this to anyone that would like to know and understand more about Info Security. It way be a little to simplistic for the advanced.

This is a good introduction to information security for the novice and doesn't go in to too much depth to overwhelm the reader.

Perfect Introduction Book,

I have just finished my sophomore year in college and in my first course relating to information and computer security we used this book. I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in getting into the rapidly expanding field of infosec.
As they say with the CISSP certification, it is an "inch deep and a mile wide". This book covers many, many topics however it is really intended to be an introduction to these concepts. It gave me a good overview of information security concepts and prepared me for senior level Infosec courses as well as preparation for graduate school. *Note that preparation for the CISSP exam would require much more then just this book*

Lots of information still valid but book is a bit out dated and even refers to a lot of material for download that is not even available no more.

I am a student and just finished this book for a class I am taking. The book was hard to read...VERY boring, but the information contained in it is well worth the struggle to read. The best part of the book in my opinion are the case studies. They are very interesting and can lead to some very good discussions.

This book was required for an information systmems class. It was a decent read, but I felt that it was lacking in technical aspects.

Content Filled - Very Technical,

I'm using this book for an introductory college course to Information Security. The book has a ton of content covering every aspect of the subject, but not well written for the introductory person. I'm very knowledgable of computers, but this book requires a different type of knowledge. Have a basis in information technology before checking out this book.
