The fifth edition is thoroughly updated to present a complete state of the art of clinical neurology. Coverage begins with the cardinal manifestations of neurologic disease, goes on to describe how these manifestations correlate to clinical syndromes, and then reviews the diagnosis and treatment of the neurologic diseases in which the syndromes fit. This text has been designed to act as a useful teaching format for students, residents, and practitioners.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...text remains most pleasant to read and has maintained its lucent and elegant style." "Adams and Victor's book ranks first among textbooks in neurology on account of its didactics." "...the book remarkable when compared with other similar texts." "The seventh edition of Adams and Victor's textbook remains a first-class book for residents training in neurology, but is no less valuable for senior neurologists. It is also a perfect reference for other medical specialists and psychologists. Non-neurologists will easily find answers to their questions, with an appropriate amount of detail. The cliché that everyone should purchase this book or that it belongs in any neurological library is redundant and out of tune here. One can certainly live without this book, but medical life is far more pleasant with a copy within reach." (Lancet ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars A general textbook for clinical neurology, October 18, 1998
By A Customer
This 1600pp-book is a clinically-oriented approach to the major syndromes and diseases of the nervous system. Neurologic examination is not covered. Its overall quality is one the highest. The authors of the 6th edition have placed considerable attention to diseases that traditionally interested child neurologists (developmental neurology, inherited metabolic diseases). The chapters on neurodegeneration and demyelinating diseases are very well written. Cerebrovascular disease is covered in 100 pp. The chapter on peripheral neuropathies does not contain a clinical algorithm for reaching diagnosis in the patient with a neuropathic syndrome - something that almost all neurology textbooks lack. Not particular emphasis has been placed to clinical details of therapy. The practicing neurologist will have to consult another source for that. Chapters are very well balanced, and many cross-references are provided. The authors have also done a good job with the bibliography, providing references to key papers with more detail on each subject dealt.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ideal and a superb text, April 8, 2006

Prof. KNV. (Pondicherry, INDIA) - See all my reviews
This book is a classic reference text in neurology surpassing any other book in the field . Every resident in neurology should possess one and neurologists are no exemption . The minute details in genetics are kept to the bare minimum and at the same time the clinical aspects are stressed . The neuroanatomy and physiology at the beginning are simply fantastic. Kudos to Professor A. Ropper .

5.0 out of 5 stars AN ENDURING CLASSIC, May 29, 2001
By A Customer
This text, one of the finest works ever written on nervous pathology and the varied clinical manifestations they evoke, continues to occupy its eminent position in the field. A work by legends, it has become one on its own - no other textbook in existence elucidates neurological disease with such clarity and honesty.

Magnificent.
