5.0 out of 5 stars Principles of Personal Defense
Written by the master himself. Jeff Cooper hits home runs on every swing. This is a clean, to the point manual for those who've decided they will no longer walk as prey upon the face of the earth. It is foundational, and if you will follow Jeff's advice, this book will guide you upon your way to eleminating yourself as someone elses dinner.

I heartily recommend...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't spend the money again....
I admire and respect Col. Cooper, but this is way over priced for what you get. This is his basic philosophy that is echoed in a lot of his other publications.

I heartily recommend this book. I cannot do it justice on how clear and precise his teachings are. So, read it, and if you have friends or family among the grass eaters, get them to read it too.

You can love him or hate him, but you can not deny the impact Jeff Cooper had on modern handgun teaching and tactics. And even today Principles of Personnel Defense is a must read for any student of self defense and the combat mindset. For many firearm training schools this is required reading, and every school I have been to has had it as at least recommended. This book is short, but it is good. Many of the points Cooper makes are every bit as valid and important now as when he first started teaching the Modern Technique. I would call this a must read for anyone who is s serious student of combat handgunning.

Since it's sometimes necessary for peaceful people to defend themselves, it's a good idea for them to be prepared for it psychologically. Whether you're a black-belt or just someone with a big stick, Colonel Cooper's pithy book can do just that. And you can read it in an hour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colonel Cooper Cuts to the Chase, December 19, 2009

I began reading the Colonel's books decades ago. Finally got a chance to go to Gunsite for Pistol and Carbine courses in March of 2009. Although the Colonel has passed away his spirit lives on there. I met his wife and she gave our class a tour of their house. Wonderful lady! As far as the book is concerned...It is about the most important aspect of personal defense: Mindset. Without a pre-developed mindset and determination to survive, you will often not prevail against violent predators. No matter what fancy gun you happen to be carrying. As a martial artist for the past 35 years, I can attest to the validity of this. The chapters of this book form the foundations for survival. Read it, and live your life not fearful, but more determined and aware.

This book is the most dog eared in my many gun books. I have read and reread this book, loaned it to friends and bought eight copies to give as gifts. If you are interested in the self defense mindset this is a must have.

I read the entire book while sitting at the airport waiting for a flight. Took no more than about an hour. But what an hour it was! This book was fantastic. Absolutely recommended if you are at all concerned about self defense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Self defense begins in the mind of the defender, February 9, 2011
This review is from: Principles of Personal Defense (Paperback)
All that we are and all that we do, begin in our mind.

This book is the software [mindware] for self defense. It's not about weapon skills. It's not about physical skills. It is about the attitude and personal commitment for survival in the face of violent, life threatening attack.

Read it. Re-read it. Share it.

Be careful. Peace be with you.

The stuff of lore. Things that Mr. Cooper wrote many years ago are never more true and useful as they are now. Did he see it coming? He must have had a clue. A short read with lots of great information, worth reading again and again.
