Outstanding beginner's level book,

This review is from: Principles of Qabalah: The Only Introduction You'll Ever Need (Thorsons Principles) (Paperback)
As a professor who has taught Kabbalah (Cabalah, Qabalah) since 1972 at Universal Seminary, it is my personal opinion this is the best book ever published for helping the new student understand the basics of Kabbalah. Never before has it been so easy to learn about the Tree of Life. This is the book several dozen of my students should have written. It is one I would have liked to write except for the enormity of the task. Thank you Ms. Jayanti. Your book will give hundreds of new students the foundation they need to master the Kabbalah. The time and energy you saved me is a gift I will always treasure. So is your book.John Gilbert, Ph.D., D.D., Provost, Universal Seminary

Not enough meat,

This review is from: Principles of Qabalah: The Only Introduction You'll Ever Need (Thorsons Principles) (Paperback)
"The only introduction you'll ever need" if you only need to skim the surface. The book is very small, and they waste loads of space on the Qabalalistic view of various lifestyle decisions and situations, all of which to my mind isn't necessary for the "pathless path". It's like a reflection, and is different depending on what you bring to it. Explaining such things make it seem as though there is only one answer. By the time they approach actually explaining things, assuming you read through all of that, there isn't enough room to give it any depth. It's TOO simplistic and I would really only recommend it for people who want to know what the Qabalah is, but have no intensions on any serious study.

Confused about Kabbalah/Cabala/Qabalah? Start here.,

This review is from: Principles of Qabalah: The Only Introduction You'll Ever Need (Thorsons Principles) (Paperback)
If the plethora of books on the Qabalah have left you confused about what it exactly is, how it fits together and what, if anything, it has to do with daily existence, this is the place to start. One of the few female Qabalists, Amber clearly describes the mystical teachings of the Universal Qabalah, a system bridging the inner traditions of East and West. She provides an explanation of this combination of the Jewish mystical teachings of the Kabbalah, the Christian-Muslim-derived Cabala and the western mystery tradition Qabalah which encompasses tarot, numerology, astrology, alchemy, angelology and sacred geometry. She illustrates Qabalistic principles with examples from her own and her students' lives and extends her approach to include the Qabalistic perspective on contemporary issues such as gender equality, sexual preference, abortion, and mental illness. Amber also describes in detail the Tree of Life, the graphic representation or map of the Qabalah. Amber manages to cover all this and more in an enjoyable, easily understandable style. You'll feel like you have your own personal teacher in the room with you when you read this.

The only introduction you'll ever need,

This review is from: Principles of Qabalah: The Only Introduction You'll Ever Need (Thorsons Principles) (Paperback)
Slim, rich, and beautifully written, this volume gives all the basics and then some. If you've ever wanted to know why there are three different spellings--Qabalah, Kabbalah, and Cabala--this book will clarify them. It is simple bits of information such as this that make this book unique and interesting. Also, Principles includes the usual diagrams and lists for easy reference, but the emphasis is on practice. Amber's lovely voice and style guide us through the ways in which we can put Qabalistic principles to work in our lives. Thank you, Amber, for giving us another gift from your heart. Your first book, Living The Tarot, is a cherished volume which I use constantly. Soon, the pages of Principles will be equally worn. To my sister in Tarot, I send you much respect and love.

Amber Jayanti covers a lot of good ground in this small book. I completely agree with the title that this book is the only introduction you will ever need - as long as you keep in mind that it is just an introduction. Jayanti covers the history and forms of Qabalah, and then dives into the Tree of Life, tarot correspondences, and large tables of correspondences - with examples of how and why they are the way they are. She completes the book with a brief discussion on practice.
While this may be the only introduction you will ever need, and it will whet the appetite for more learning, it is certainly not the only resource you will ever need. View it as a good into to a lifetime of learning.

Longtime students of the Qabalah must be cheering: the need for a clear yet comprehensive introduction has at last been fulfilled. Amber Jayanti's latest book is essential reading for anyone interested in the subject, whether novice or adept. Rich in wisdom, yet written in an utterly engaging style, Principles of Qabalah distills the learning of many lifetimes into clear principles and offers practical applications for daily life.Like the author's previous book, Living the Tarot, it seems destined to become a well-thumbed guide, a sourcebook of ideas and insights that readers will turn to day after day. Don't be surprised if reading it changes your life.
