Book Description

January 2003 0314258507 978-0314258502 2
This superb little book explains the principles of Torts for law students. Written by a scholar who has taught Torts for 37 years and written more than 20 books and many articles about torts and related subjects, it captures the essence of tort law in a way that tells students what they need to know to understand the subject.

Professor Shapo distills his experience in thousands of classes and his grading of thousands of examinations to identify the core questions that all law students must answer in Torts. He writes clearly about the rules that courts use to solve those questions, and he explains the reasoning and policies that underlie the rules. Selecting colorful examples from the enormous variety of cases he has studied, he constantly relates the principles of law to understandable real life situations.

The clear, crisp summaries of the law include references to such diverse matters as Paula Jones' suit against Bill Clinton for intentional infliction of emotional distress, the use of hidden cameras by investigative reporters for TV networks, statistics on injury in the National Football League, and a defamation suit involving former Beatle George Harrison.

The CONCISE HORNBOOK ON TORTS explains the subject and makes it live without sacrificing the substance each student must master to succeed in the Torts course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Supplement, November 16, 2007

This review is from: Principles of Tort Law (The Concise Hornbook Series) (Paperback)
As a first year law student, this book has helped me significantly. It breaks down potentially huge subjects into digestible parts that actually make sense. Probably not for use as a primary source, but excellent if you use it wisely!

4.0 out of 5 stars Clear, comprehensive, readable., April 20, 2007
This review is from: Principles of Tort Law (The Concise Hornbook Series) (Paperback)
Little more to say than the title summary. That however is a demanding list of qualities for an introductory law textbook. What made the book valuable to me was that it gave me a clear understanding of the material immediately on reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars could be useful for mid terms and finals, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Principles of Tort Law (The Concise Hornbook Series) (Paperback)
I have only glanced at this book since I started my torts class. Torts isn't very difficult but I will likely use this book to study for mid terms and finals
