This review is from: Principles of Voice Production (Hardcover)
This is a brilliantly written book. I would recommend it to anyone seeking to understand how the mechanical properties of the voice relate to vocalized sound. It explains age, size, and gender related vocal differences. It explains how many muscle interactions affect various control aspects of the voice. It is packed with helpful charts and illustrations. It is the most thoroughly referenced book that I have ever read. This is not a book about vocal training; it is about how the voice operates. Understaning how the voice operates has been very helpful to me in my own vocal training. It had previously taken me years to discover a fragment of the knowledge revealed in this one book. It is absolutely the most useful book on the voice that I have ever read!

THE book for Voice Science and Vocology,
By Voice Guy (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Principles of Voice Production (Hardcover)
Whether you are a singer, speech pathologist, otolaryngologist, scientist or just curious about the voice, this is THE book if you want to know more than just the standard spouting. Ingo Titze defined the word vocology. As both a scientist (Ph.D. in physics) and an operatic tenor, he is world renown and is arguably scientific world leader over the last several decades in the study of the voice; his full bio is at the National Center for Voice and Speech (NCVS) website. They sell this book at that site.
The book is well written. It starts from the basic anatomy and physiology, moves to basic principles of physics and acoustics, and ends with common voice disorders.
