Product Description

One of America's greatest evangelists instructs Christians on how to pray with this 40-day devotional study.

About the Author

Charles G. Finney was born in 1792, and trained as a lawyer before becoming one of America's foremost evangelists. Over one million people were converted under his ministry in an age that offered neither amplifiers nor mass communication tools. The principles he discovered concerning the principles of revival have been preserved and utilized by evangelists and missionaries alike through the centuries. Finney served as professor of Theology and President of Oberlin College in Ohio.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome book on prayer, August 27, 2001
This review is from: Principles of Prayer (Paperback)
This was one of the first Finney books I ever read in the mid-80s. The principles of prayer I learned from this book then are still used in my life today. This book is the cream of his teaching on prayer from his Lectures on Revivals, broken down into daily devotionals. If you're longing for revival, or longing for God to answer your prayers, this may be just the book you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing, but prefer the older version, January 31, 2007

This review is from: Principles of Prayer (Paperback)
This book on prayer answered questions I didn't even know I had. I recommend that people first read Finney's Memoirs for an exciting picture of what God did through him & his ministry. That is the best of Finney & will help you understand his other works. I honestly prefer the older version of this book because it is less 'updated' and uses a more literal translation of the Bible in its quotations. I consumed this book, going through it twice in a few weeks. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative Book, January 5, 2007

This review is from: Principles of Prayer (Paperback)
There is a lot of information in this little book. It is good for a group or individual study. Finney talks about a lot of aspects of prayer that people don't usually talk about, like seeing things from God's point of view. The chapters are short and easy to read, although the language is a little dated. It is a nice break from so many books that seem to all say the same thing.

For unless they have the spirit of prayer (or unless someone else has), the truth, by itself, will do nothing but harden men in impenitence. "e;

A man must have some definite objective in mind. He cannot pray effectually for a variety of things at once. The mind is so constituted that it cannot focus its desire intensely upon many things at the same time. All the instances of effectual prayer recorded in the Bible are focused on one thing. "e;

So when Christians offer effectual prayer, their state of feeling renders it proper for God to answer them. "e;
