This was one of the first Finney books I ever read in the mid-80s. The principles of prayer I learned from this book then are still used in my life today. This book is the cream of his teaching on prayer from his Lectures on Revivals, broken down into daily devotionals. If you're longing for revival, or longing for God to answer your prayers, this may be just the book you need.

This book on prayer answered questions I didn't even know I had. I recommend that people first read Finney's Memoirs for an exciting picture of what God did through him & his ministry. That is the best of Finney & will help you understand his other works. I honestly prefer the older version of this book because it is less 'updated' and uses a more literal translation of the Bible in its quotations. I consumed this book, going through it twice in a few weeks. Highly recommended.

There is a lot of information in this little book. It is good for a group or individual study. Finney talks about a lot of aspects of prayer that people don't usually talk about, like seeing things from God's point of view. The chapters are short and easy to read, although the language is a little dated. It is a nice break from so many books that seem to all say the same thing.

These men of old really knew how to talk to God! Great book!

A great starter book for learning how to pray according to God's will and how to sincerely seek the Lord through prayer.

A great book that should be in every Christian's library. Just as revelant today as the day he wrote it. You cannot go wrong in having this book, it will change your prayer life for the better.

Finney's Principles of Prayer [Paperback], first published in 1980, eventually led to 15 more Finney Principles Series books to be published by Bethany House Publishers. The most recent Finney's Principles books in the series are Principles of Righteousness: Finney's Lessons on Romans, Volume I [Paperback] and Principles of Peace: Finney's Lessons on Romans: Volume II [Paperback].

Because of your interest in prayer, just as Principles of Prayer [Paperback] contains daily devotional readings and prayers, I believe you will also enjoy Prayer Steps to Serenity The Twelve Steps Journey: New Serenity Prayer Edition [Paperback] which teaches truths learned from studying Charles Finney and Andrew Murray. The book follows a 12 Steps and Serenity Prayer format. Most scholars today believe the principles of the 12 Steps can be traced back to the great revivals in the 1800's in America, which were pioneered in many ways by Finney. If you have been a student of Finney for many years, I believe you will see his influence in this recovery book, a book that help anyone with their problems.
