outstanding stuff,
By loud wizard (texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prinzhorn Dance School (Audio CD)
Prinzhorn Dance School's self-titled debut is a spiky little wonder. This may well be the most minimal rock record ever - most songs consist of rudimentary drums, two or three note basslines, and the vocal interplay between Tobin Prinz + Suzi Horn, the principals of the band. Occasionally there's a jagged guitar line as well.
Lyrically it's sparse, with songs focusing on everyday, mundane activities or with simple words that don't add up to much, but every song has at least one line that's a twist, a suprise, or a joke that doesn't get old. It's an interesting display of songwriting that I can't directly compare to anyone else. Songs like "Do You Know Your Butcher" are both familiar and unsettling, whereas "Spaceman In Your Garden" is oddly affecting. Excellent record, I hope there will be more to come.

If I had it to do over, I would've just bought the mp3 of "You are the Space Invader" instead of the whole album.

nothing new here, move along,

the problem is the vocals. that, and the simplistic lyrics. yes, there's a little gang of four influence here, but the gang of four had a lot more going for them than these guys do.
