I ordered this 10x20 back drop along with another white one and a stand. There was a problem with the stand which originally took some time to sort through but they made it right. The stand and both backdrops arrived promptly. The backdrop was shipped in its own role rather than folded or requiring ironing or other fuss...a very nice touch! I was a bit hesitant at first especially in relation to the thickness of this muslin. While it IS muslin and NOT gauze like many of the super inexpensive versions being sold on Ebay or even here on Amazon, it isn't super thick so I was worried about opacity and unfiromity of coverage. For the price, I figured I'd have to make due and fix in Photoshop....happily that was NOT the case. The muslin performed well and looked very nice in the photos. The black came out a nice deep black and ditto for the white. Not grey, not yellow...black and white as each was supposed to be. The sizing is slightly smaller than 10x20 as mentioned in the item description but the muslin is of a decent enough quality it should wear well. Although originally hesitant and somewhat taken aback by the issue with the stand, this seller followed through and made everything "right". Nice price, nice seller, nice photos with this and the other white backdrop. Thanks!

This item is advertised as being 20 feet by 10 feet. Even if you deduct the 4 or 5 inches used to construct the pocket that runs across one of the 'ten-foot' ends, you still do not come close to 20 feet.

Because of other reviews stating the same thing, I measured this drop as soon as it arrived. It is 9 feet wide and 18 feet long. If proper size is critical for your studio, look elsewhere.

The material feels sturdy and is definitely black black, but will transmit light (very little light if doubled, however). The backdrop without the bag weighs six pounds. The material has visible strands of white thread running through it in places.

Basically, I am using this to darken the studio and to be a background behind the shooting backdrops. I am satisfied with the product for that purpose.

**EDIT** 7 JUNE 2012

I have changed my three-star rating to a four-star rating. Why? Because of the outstanding customer service I have received from Cheetah Mounts.

Crystal at Cheetah Mounts has contacted me several times to apologize for any inconvenience I've experienced and has even offered a partial refund.

I notice, too, that they have changed the information on the Amazon sales site to reflect clearly the actual size of the product.

If I were to rate this transaction on customer service alone, my rating would be five stars.

This is a big backdrop - plenty of room to shoot a couple, maybe even 3-4 people standing, if you're careful with your main light and angles. If this was a thick, heavy duty muslin it would collapse my backdrop stand, actually. It's cheapness actually makes it more easily portable, but I have some doubts about the rod pocket seams, which are sewn with a weak stitch. I've set it up and taken it down 5 times thus far, and it gets wadded up in between which gives it that evenly crinkled look that keeps me from having to iron it. I really, really do not want to iron it - it's like a ship's sail.

I'm rating it a 4 because it is surprisingly suitable for my needs, colorless (black means black, no blue or brown tones in the dye), and for sixty bucks I feel I got more than my money's worth despite a concern about construction. If this thing holds together for a year, I'll give it another star.

I purchased this item about a month ago and, after some 4 shoots with it, must say that I'm very pleased. Since I do my photoshoots in a 2 car garage the size is just perfect for it -- not too long and not too short. I should note, however, that the size is not actually 10x20. It's more like 9x18. The quality is actually better than I expected. There were a few loose threads but nothing more than that. It's a little on the thin side but unless you have a light source behind it, it's not a problem at all. In fact, it allows the background to be moved around much easier and takes up less space in the washer. As with all dark colored dye backdrops, I do recommend you wash it at least once before using for the first time.

When storing it, I crunch it up in a top open bag. The wrinkles that come from crunching it really don't show up much and a few times when it does, it actually adds character to the background. Muslins backdrops should not be compared to paper anymore than apples should be compared to oranges. They each have their own attributes. Having used both paper and muslin, however, I'm actually beginning to favor muslin due to the ease of storage and setting up. Muslin is extremely forgiving when setting up as opposed to the 9ftx12yds. paper rolls which can easily get out of hand, but as I said before they both have their advantages. Anyways, I highly recommend this product. You get alot of bang for your buck.

If you need a wall of black, this is perhaps the easiest way of getting it done. However, its cotton. Its not "photo-black" and you really have to watch your lighting otherwise the fibers reflect easily. Also, since its cotton, it wrinkles badly. I also purchased a white backdrop and it was a worse investment than the black which has continued to be used over the last year or so. The white remains in a closet somewhere.

First time studio enthusiasts like I was? Buy paper! its much easier to work with, gives better results.

I ordered two of the 10'x20' black muslin backdrops for video purposes, and I must say that they're working great! The color comes out nice and rich and my blue-colored accent lights show up rather nicely. For the price it's a steal because this backdrop is pretty big...but the listed size of 10'x20' is slightly skewed upon further investigation. Because of the other reviews regarding the "advertised" vs. "actual" measurements, I promptly measured mine and sure enough...they measured out to be 9'x18' (which is a whole 24 inches shorter than advertised!!! And 12 inches shorter than most other people who had the same issue!!!). All-in-all they fit the bill...but if you have any size requirements for your project...compensate your order quantity accordingly to make up for the shrink factor.

I was also hoping to get the backdrops shipped on tubes like some of the reviewers said they got theirs shipped. Sadly though, I did not get the distinct pleasure of sitting back with a beer, watching my UPS guy try to manhandle two 10' boxes up to my door. Bummer... They did, however, come in these nifty little carry bags - which are completely useless as backdrop carry bags, unless you don't mind a badly creased backdrop every time you use it. I just threw mine in the dryer on the extra-low heat delicate cycle with some damp towels and a few dryer sheets for 30 min. The glaring creases kinda relaxed and there were enough little random wrinkles after the dryer treatment to make it look alright on camera.

They shipped VERY quickly and I'm a happy customer for the most part. My advice to CheetahMounts is this. This is something you learn in high school as a young man..Don't brag about your size when you know it's smaller than it really is! It's just embarrassing. Especially when all of your customers have their ACCURATE tape measures on quick draw! That's all. Happy creating everyone! CHEERS!!!!

If they would have said, "You should expect 5% shrinkage" I may have been expecting a 9.7x20, but when I measured mine, it was 9'x19'. That is a little shorter than 10x20. As far as the backdrop itself, it is ok. Kind of thin but usable for sure. Black looks rich and dark in photos. The ONLY reason for the 4 stars was the size.

First of all this is my first time on Amazon and it has been a great experience. I ordered this item on a friday moringing and it arrived Tuesday afternoon. I did pay for the faster shipping but the item still had 2 more days to be dellivered if it needed to be. As for the item, the background is Jet Black like they say. I ordered the 10 by 20 foot background and it is a good size. I didn't check the sizeing like most have on the others on the other reviews. It look correct for a 10 by 20. The only thing I didn't like was the fact the material is thin but you get what you pay for. That is the only reason why I gave the construction quality 3 stars. But as long as the photographer doesn't put a light behind the background you can't see a difference. So if a photographer has a studio or wants to start a studio with little money I would invest in this background. It is light weight just a little then. I did love the bag that came with the background. I don't have a studio set up for permant use so that bag is real handy for me. I have been photographing for 6 year now, 2 years with Josten's Photography and 4 years with Lifetouch National School Studio. And I am excited that I found my first background that will be used a lot. And I am on my way to putting together my own small studio.

Please go look at the images that I added to this site. There is a before and after edit's of my husband. I edited my photo in Lightroom 3. And all I did was adjust the blacks on the photo. I hope these photo's help.

This muslin backdrop is in fact a black background. Keep in mind though, it won't provide a "true black" background. For that you'll need something like sueade or velvet. But the only way to really achieve a "true black" background is to remove the light completely from the background. The absence of light provides a "true black". The material is heavy, but a little thin. It has a hoop in the top section so you don't have to clip it into place. If you steam it while it hangs, you can work most of the wrinkles out. Overall it's a good muslin backdrop to add to your collection.

This is a standard muslin backdrop. It is of a quality exactly as expected. I have washed it a few times and it has not lost any color yet. It is like all muslin that it will wrinkle easy but a few blasts from a regular household steamer does the job. I spray it with fabric wrinkle releaser and then steam it and I can use the full length and width for shoots. I have since purchased the white and plan to buy the red.
