Great kite for beginer stunters!,

This review is from: Prism Nexus Stunt Kite (Sports)
I actually went to a kite shop at the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk Kites and purchased this kite. I had several traditional kites before and wanted to do something a little more than hold a string still.
They recomended this kite for anyone getting into the sport. It is extremely durable and can take tons of poundings to the ground. Once I got it home and took it out for a spin I was hooked! It was so much fun and so entertaining! I loved watching people as they went by stopping and looking at this kite. I also was impressed with how easy it was to assemble. The instuctions were very clear and there are even instuctions pinted on the case so that you don't lose them. It folds up so compact that you can really take it anywhere. I love Prism brand kites above all others. They always seem to last far beyond they ever should. They are high quality kites that are very affordable. That is another plus about the Nexus, it is so affordable. I have bought more advanced kites since the Nexus but this is still one of my favorites. This is an excellent beginer kite that is fun for all!

This is my first stunt I have ever bought so I might not have much comparison experience but this kite really is fun. It is really easy to set up, probably takes only a minute or two and is very easy to get the kite up if there is a moderate breeze.
Although there is a small learning curve to get a feel for the turning, it usually is only 10 minutes if not less. The first time I flew this kite I was in a field on campus and everyone walking by would pause for a little bit to watch me fly the kite, and I don't doubt it'd be a great excuse to invite someone on a date.

Awesome starter stunt kite,
By groundeffect (St. John's, Newfoundland) - See all my reviews I had some thoughts about getting into kiting before, and I thought I'd give it a try with a good beginner kite. The Nexus was a great choice to start with. It gives you all the controls and maneuverability you'll need to get started and see if kiting is for you! It's very affordable and durable for the beginner; these are the points I really liked about it. I've had just my Nexus with me on a few business trips. It's small so it comes right into my suitcase and to the site I'm assigned to for that week of business. It sits with me at the back of boardroom, just waiting for those meetings to be over for the day! It took me all of a few days in good wind to realize kiting was for me... not too long after I moved up a notch and purchased some higher end models from Prism. Prism's quality and support is fantastic, and rare to see these days in the business world. It's a pleasure dealing with them and flying their awesome designs! They have the best quality team and support I've seen in the kiting industry, second to none. Still flying Prism kites today and I hope many many years to come!! The only bad thing I found with getting a Nexus was deciding which color scheme to go with, they all rock! When you move up the Prism line, you can keep this kite with you. There will always be a friend(s)/family member you can help get started in the sport with this trainer!

This isn't a kite, it's a sports car. A really, really fast, well-handling car. Like a car, you better be able to handle it, because it's going to wreck while you learn.
First time you hit a strong wind, you'll see what I mean. It's brilliantly engineered. If you're really good, you could chase birds with it - it's that agile. Highly recommended, but you need to be able to handle it.

Got an older Nexus from 2008 (with the rectangular product tag), it flies great and pretty durable too. Crashed it numerous times before the spine stopper finally punctured after a year. Now the Nexus from 2010 (with the square product tag), spine stopper punctured on third crash. Returned it and the next one punctured on the very first crash. E-mailed Prism and got an automated response, nothing else.
I'm done with Prism.

I bought this for my 15 year old son for Christmas. He was disappointed to receive "just a kite", until he started using it. Now he loves it, and tries to find time every day to go outside to use it, even though it is freezing. I had to make a couple adjustments to the lines to keep it up in the air when we first got it, but now it works great. Very high quality materials, and a tough kite. It has crashed into the ground and various bushes and trees at full speed without any noticeable damage. Lots and lots of fun....I am thinking of getting one for myself so we can fly them together.

Well I recieved my kite Thursday was really excited but suprised at the box it came in. I had ordered another kite for my younger brother and his had a 70in wingspan. I had read in the product features:
Product Features A dual-line kite perfect for novice to intermediate kite fliers 84" wing span is effective for winds 3 - 25 mph Graphite frame with ripstop nylon & mylar sail Kevlar-reinforced nose forgive your unplanned landings Compact, take-it-anywhere package includes Spectra lines, winder, flight straps, and travel case with easy instructions printed right on the back. Note it says 84" wing Span I was hooked and really did not bother reading the rest under product features: SPECS: Skill level: novice - intermediate, Wing span: 60" (152 cm) Yes, the Nexus comes with a 60" Wing Span, while on the other hand the Prism Quantum is the one that really comes with the 84" Wing Span (7ft). My brother and I took our kites out for the first time today, we are pure begginers to stunt kites and well honestly have not flown a kite in years. We enjoyed our time out there even with every hard crash we made, and the frustration of trying to get the kite to do what we wanted. Now I know for sure it's going to take some practice. I think I'm actually glad the Nexus is a 60" wing span now that I flew it. So, other than my downer when I realized I the wing span was not what I read; the Nexus Kite from Prism is an awesome kite and I really do recommend it. Next time I will just have to read more carefully and I'm sure the Quantum is next in line for me. Happy Kite Flying!

Its been a few years since I could fly a kite again. Damaged my spine flying one in San Diego a few years ago, while doing underwater tricks, I was trotting backwards trying to shake seaweed off the kite to get more lift, and ran smack into a big boat trailer hitch, crushing a vertibre! But anyway, this kite is about as good as you will get for the money. The size is right in the middle, so you can do tricks, and get some speed. Its not lightening fast like a small rocket ship, but fast enough to make people duck and cover. Its solid. As far as some other reviews saying its junk, its not. Besides, the whole idea of this kite is CONTROL, and if you are plowing into the ground at full speed perpetually, kite flying and operating ANYTHING moving is probably not your forte. If you plan to do water tricks, you might want to put some adhesives in where the rods go in,or you can lose some sticks. But Prism is easy to access, and buy replacement sticks. So maybe invest in some extra pieces if you want to take it apart all the time. Back in the day, I used to glue all the pieces in, so it would not come apart again. Where I live now, I have to keep it portable and break it down. Its a great fun kite, easy to fly, does all the tricks easy, so I recommend that all humans able to hold a kite should own one. The quality you get here in this rig, for the money (I paid about $70 I think) I believe is unbeatable. Until you know what makes a kite worth more, I would fly this one until it disintegrates, (which could take years!), and then you might know what you would want to spend HUNDREDS on. For $70 Bucks, you can not go wrong with this, and its sure to please the child in you, or your child, or the monster in you, with all the tricks available just a few hours flight experience and a finger twitch away. Awesome Sport! Enjoy! And always watch your surroundings!!! Always suspect something is behind you; you never know when someone parks a darn boat and trailer behind you, and leaves the hitch up in the air 4' 4" off the ground. Took years to recover! Be careful! |
