5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down my favorite kite, November 14, 2008

I genuinely love this kite!

This is the kite with which I always finish a flying session and I can fly it in winds that are too light for my delta two-line stunt kites, so it eases that frustration! It packs away into a 6 × 6 inch pouch complete with lines and handles (I use Sky Claws because standard wrist straps can cut in a bit when the kite pulls in a stronger breeze - haven't tried padded straps though) which makes it really portable, is easy to set up, and easy to launch single-handed.

OK, it won't axel, yo-yo, tip-stab, or do any other of those neat tricks a finely-tuned framed stunt kite will do, but it'll carve great curves, turn on a dime, and accelerate madly and stretch your muscles when the wind gets up. Hook on a tail and write in the sky!

Being soft there's nothing to break but your pride if you do plow it into the dirt - and yes, that'll happen when it doubles its speed in a gust on a down-curve or ground-level fly-by. But I have never had to do the "walk of shame" to get it relaunched because a few judicious tugs will straighten it out and get it back into the air to scream upward to the top of the wind window.

It has decent pull and will drag my 220lb a few steps when the wind grabs it, which makes it perhaps too strong for the little kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, August 2, 2010

This review is from: Prism Snapshot 1.9 Speed Foil Kite (Sports)
WOW! Absolutely awesome! I took this kite (Prism Snapshot 1.9) to the beach at the Oregon Coast and flew it every day for almost 2 weeks. It was fantastic!

This was my first experience with a 2-line kite. I followed the advice for unassisted launches in the flying instructions, and the kite lifted off the sand perfectly - time after time. Control is smooth and predictable. It effortlessly handles long, graceful arcs, or fairly tight, snappy turns. It hovers with ease at the sides of the wind window, and with skill, you can stand it on end on the ground, or turn it over and scribe a 180 degree arc to the opposite side, skimming inches above the sand.

It flies with incredibly mild manners in light to moderate winds. My six-year-old learned to fly it in a matter of minutes. Friends and family tried it too, and loved it. When the wind was too light to launch other kites, this one could still fly. A short run got it airborne, and thereafter, as long as I worked the lines to keep sufficient forward speed, it flew well.

As the wind picks up, though, it begins to pull really hard. Nothing can quite describe the thrill and the physical challenge of flying this kite in a strong wind. The lines scream as the kite accelerates across the wind window. It drags my 160lb frame all over the place, and momentarily lifts me off the ground during upward sweeps. Great fun, and a serious workout! Can you do one-arm pull-ups? To keep control in a strong wind, you'd better start training!

During creative flying, the kite frequently drew groups of onlookers and admirers, some of whom were inspired to buy their own foil kites.

As with any sport kite, keep a CONSTANT watch for people who walk obliviously into the 100ft flight radius. While stunt-flying, it's difficult to take your eyes off the kite, even for a second, but you must... at speed, the kite or lines could seriously injure someone!

Thankfully, this kite seems to be pretty resilient. We crashed it into the sand and the sea a number of times, and it suffered no harm. Twice, the waves sank it and filled it with sand, but I just rinsed it out in the sea, shook it out, and relaunched. At the end of the day, I rinsed it again with fresh water in a bathtub and hung it up to dry.

Minor gripes:
1. Out of the bag, the left line (marked blue) was 3 inches longer than the right line, so I had to untie the knots at the wrist strap and shorten that line.
2. The tail is a beautiful, bright orange color, but it is cut from rip-stop nylon with no edge treatment, so during high-speed flying, the edges at the end of the tail begin to fray and catch on themselves, creating knots and matting into tight wads. I cut the end off numerous times, but the fraying would just start all over again. This is the wrong material to use for a tail.
3. In strong winds, the wrist straps chafed and hurt my wrists really badly. I would definitely recommend gloves, padding, or other handles for flying in such conditions.
4. For some reason, the top of the kite is white. I'd much prefer it to match the main color of the underside. On an overcast day, the top tends to blend into the sky.

Aside from these little issues, the kite seems well-designed and well-constructed, and offers some serious fun. It packs up small and light for impressive portability, and comes with a high-quality carry-bag and excellent documentation. Very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fly me to the moon!, August 28, 2009

Fantastic kite, easy to use, no assembly and provides unlimited hours of fun at the beach or wherever there is lots of room for "crash landings". Great sport as well as you manoeuver it with the winds.
