4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best
This is one of the best books of paint-by-number logic puzzles (also known as Nonograms, O'Ekaki, Hanjie, Griddlers, Paint-doku, Paint-A-Pix, CrossPix and numerous other names) I've run across...and I've tried quite a few. 3.0 out of 5 stars Color pixel puzzles
The puzzles are great but the print quality is not. It rubs off if you try to erase anything and some of the clues are hard to read. I found it helpful to make a color copy of the puzzle and work on that instead of the book.

This is one of the best books of paint-by-number logic puzzles (also known as Nonograms, O'Ekaki, Hanjie, Griddlers, Paint-doku, Paint-A-Pix, CrossPix and numerous other names) I've run across...and I've tried quite a few. These are multi-color puzzles, which helps this book to stand out from the crowd. The puzzles represent a range of difficulties, but none are idiotically simple and none are impossible. The pictures are all nice, and some of them are gorgeous. For new solvers, there is a reasonable how-to introduction. The paper is high-quality and the wire binding makes it easy to use -- it lies perfectly flat. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars has to do with the color spectrum chosen, which in several ways is simply too broad. Few solvers will have a full range of writing implements in all the colors called for. Worse, some of the puzzles use up to four shades of the same basic color (i.e. pale, light, medium and dark), and there is enough variation in the printing process that it is hard to match up the colors in a few of the four-, five-, and six-or-more-color puzzles. Still, it is overall a terrific puzzle book and I look forward to more from these authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good pictures but...., December 22, 2008

Interesting concept to put into print - colored pixel puzzles. The puzzles themselves are fun and interesting to do, and attractive. My big problem with them is seeing the numbers within the colored squares. Also, the closeness in value in the colors used sometimes makes it hard to tell one from another.

Over all, a good puzzle book. Just have a good light to work by!

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Great Puzzle Book, July 6, 2009
This review is from: PrismaPixels; Colored Pixel Puzzles (Spiral-bound)
I love this book!! I agree that they colors could be better, but if you don't have a certain shade it works just as well to substitue something close to it. I am also using the Crayola Twistables and they work great. So far, I have had all the colors I need. I also have the Pocket Prismapixels. The colors are much more vivid and easier to distinguish between in that book, but I have enjoyed both of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Agree with Andrea - and what I've found works well, January 18, 2009

I do have to agree with reviewer Andrea, I don't know what type of paper they printed these on, but it's obviously not a very high quality.

The issue I got in to was that I thought Crayola's erasable colored pencils might work well, but the paper would not hold the color well...and if you bear down too hard, even the erasable colored pencil won't come out!

My solution: I'm using Crayola's "Twistable" colored pencils and going very lightly over each square (the paper holds the color from them better, and as long as I go lightly, they erase just fine). So far, no major problems to report.

The first puzzle I finished was a bit of a disappointment - it was supposed to be a piranha, but was obviously more of a charicature...I was hoping for better quality puzzles and don't see any yet.

I have really enjoyed working the puzzles in this book. It would be very helpful if colored pencils came with the book, and even more helpful if those pencils were numbered to correspond with what colors are needed for each puzzle. Also, there were a few puzzles where I had a hard time distinguishing between two different colors; one puzzle in particular was un-workable. I'd love to give it 5 stars, but it's just not there yet!

4.0 out of 5 stars Colors make it better, November 5, 2009

If you like pixel puzzles, these are better. The colors make it easier to figure out what goes where. I use colored pencils and erasable ones make it easier to fix mistakes. You're not supposed to, but I refer heavily to the solution pictures. It makes it more relaxing for me to do. The fun is in the doing, the finished pictures are nothing special.

2.0 out of 5 stars nice idea but poor printing, May 3, 2009

The idea is great, unfortunately they choose a cheap printing, different parts of the clues have different ink level and/or tone. Hard to follow.
At times different colors are so close is hard to distinguish.
Hope they make a new, better printing
