Great for fine detailing,

This review is from: Prismacolor Verithin Colored Pencils, 24 Colored Pencils(2427) (Office Product)
These pencils are great for fine detailing. When coloring large sections, it tends to get a bit tedious. The regular prismacolor pencils are great for large areas, though they have a very thick lead so they color like crayons. But I love these pencils for coloring small or thin spots. I recommend an electric pencil sharpener for these; I used two different regular ones at first and the point kept breaking to the point where I barely had enough pencil to use the electric sharpener.

Different Strokes,

Originally, I purchased these totally by mistake. I like the creamy flow of Prismacolor regular colored pencils for the work I do. And, that's just it. What effect do you want to create in your art? I only used these for detail, fine line work and embellishing. They are so hard that yes, they are virtually pediment (not eraseable). I find they also gouge deep into the paper so you have to use paper or canvas that holds up under pressure. I use them so rarely that my small set will last for years, that's because of the hardness too. Of all my art supplies, they are a very limited and specific use tool. For your style, they might be an inspiration.
Other great "soft" colored pencils are regular Prismacolor (you can get open stock - one at a time, at Michaels and try them out), Derwent and Dick Blick has their own brand, very inexpensive with colors that the other Artist brands don't have.

Great for my landscaping projects,
This review is from: Prismacolor Verithin Colored Pencils, 24 Colored Pencils(2427) (Office Product)
I needed a color pencil to give me depth and vivid color when sketching still life images. A lot of artists use these pencils so I decided to find out why. It did not take me long to discover their versatility and precision. Blending and shadowing were not difficult to achieve and I was impressed by the amount of techniques I can successfully achieve with the help of Prisma color.

Lovely colors. Great blendable quality. I never have problems with any Prisma brand pencil. Easy and fun and the tips don't break off easily. Highly recommended for your creative side.

Good for Basic Use,

I needed to create some color sketches and decided that colored pencils were a more desirable medium than Photoshop or ink. I knew from past experience that I knew that Crayola pencils would not provide the dynamic pencil range or feel that I desired. I also knew that Prismacolor Premier were far out of my budget. Prismacolor Verithin fit nicely between the two options: a good pencil without a high price.
Verithin are nice to work with for lines and small areas or patches. They are a hard lead and don't blend together willingly; in fact, the blending pencil (not included in this pack) is useless in any attempt to blend colors. That said, this box of 24 offers a sufficient color range for basic sketch work and I only find myself wanting for a yellow-green color and a lighter indigo. The pencils sharpen nicely, go onto sketch paper easily, and have a great saturation. I have not had a problem with lead breaking save for the stubborn black pencil which I kept falling apart such that the pencil was half gone before I managed to get even a useful, blunt tip on it. I'm very happy with these pencils for my basic use.

You'd Expect More From PrismaColor,
By Rad Rob "Game Solstice" (Maryland) - See all my reviews

Unerasable, almost impossible to blend or shade with because of its permanency. Worst of all is the sharpening! I wore down half the entire black pencil just trying to sharpen it for the first time. The lead breaks and pops out every stinkin' time! You'd expect better from such a high end name. Pity.

I mainly use these pencils for detail work or light sketches for small works. Soft lead is the only reason I prefer Prismacolor, less pressure results in a lighter shade and more pressure is darker--can't easily do that with Crayola or other mid-strength lead. Prismacolor is also great for experimenting with the blending pencil.
A tip of advice for those who have sharping issues or broken leads. Electric/battery powered is better for these pencils and don't over sharpen. Try microwaving for 25-35 seconds or bake the pencils on 250 degrees for ~3-5 minutes and it'll remelt the pencil wax lead back together. Also don't drop your pencils or the box, you'll cause cracks in the lead.

Less expensive color pencils for small work,
By Srinivasan Nenmeli Krishna "nksrinivasan" (Palo Alto CA USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

These Prisma Verithin are suitable for detailed, small drawings and not that expensive;better color thickness than cheaper ones.
The down -side is the same problem as with other Prisma pencils---hard to sharpen, the wood casing splits or breaks often and the lead breaks often both with hand-held sharpeners and the electric ones. I should mention that Prisma rendering is too waxy with all care in the final result...so the pencils are good for small sketches and drawings---not for serious artists. For serious work, go for more expensive European color pencils!

The set of 24 pencils I received did not live up to its hype and upon sharpening them many either suffered from split wood or just poor wood quality overall. Definitely not worth paying over $13 for. I am disappointed in the quality of this product and its poor materials.
